![]() | Brf jar contam?
Hi all; I'm new to your forum and a rookie at mycology. And I have a question. I am spawning 8 jars of BRF and in two of them I have a green growth. I think that it is Trich but it hasn't grown. I unfortunately don't have a working camera or I would post a picture. My question is, if in doubt, should I just chuck the jars? It is no big deal and I would rather be safe than sorry, but can I cut the contam out? The jars in question are colonating. I am aware that without pictures I am tying your hands so any suggestions are appreciated. |

IMHO, I would just throw them out. Later on when you have some more experience you could try saving it but i don't think it's worth the trouble. It's too easy to make some more pf jars. If you really want to try and save it, cut out the bad, spray down with 1:3 h2o2/h2o solution a few times (wait 8 hours in between sprays) Or you could try a dunk in 1 part bleach to 200 parts water. This is all risky as the contam might not be killed and then it spreads to your other cakes. That's why I'd just chuck it Good luck! |

I agree with Ben.... throw it out. Save the experimenting for when you have a little bit more experience. Even then you will probably decide to just trow it out. A lot of work is involved in "saving" a jar, and the risk of contaminating the entire area is not worth it in my opinion. ggod |

Well I did it. The contam was growing alright, it just grew inward out of my view. I buried it under an apple tree. Do you think anything could grow from it? Also I couldn't find the second jar that had a very small patch on it. I think mycelium grew over the spot. Bad news for me!
