Hi everyone I am new here. This is my first time at the mushroom thing and I am trying to figure out where I am going to start. I have read up on the teks and believe I understand the PF Tek well but am not sure if this is the way for me to go. I have Brazilian, Cambodian, F+, Keepers Creeper, South African Transki, South American, and B+ syringes from Ralphsters. Would the small grain based mycobag from mycofactory be a good choice? What kind of yeild can one expect from one of these? Are there problems with them contaminating? Can you get another flush out of them after the first one or do they dry out? Just looking for some opinions on these. Thanks for any help.

Mycobags are great especially if you know what you are doing. If you hae never grown before the most fool proof method is going to be the simple pf tek. this will also give you expereince and knowledge that you can build on. If you are determined to use mycobags just be sure you pc for the recommended time of 60 - 90 minutes at 15 lbs. If you case that colonized substrate then you can expect around 3 flushes if you maintain the proper environment. The amount of mushrooms you get from that depends on how much substrate you are using and the fruiting ability of the substrain you cultivate. Predicting such things is difficult. You really just have to get in there and see for yourself. I'll link you to a good grain tek. |

Well I have decided what I am gonna do. I got some half pint jars but I could not find the short wide mouth ones so I hope just the regular ones will be ok. The pressure cooker I have will only fit 5 jars, 6 if I kind of like jam one in the middle but it won't touch the rack on the PC. Would this be ok like this? I would like to do 12 jars and don't want to do more than 2 runs in the PC if I don't have too. Also, can I just take the jars out as soon as I PC them and then start the next batch in there letting the jars cool down out of the PC? I am following this TEK http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthre...understandable Then when they are cooled, I remove the tape then innoc the jars and put them in my tub in tub. I just leave the holes in lids uncovered and the vermiculite will be my contam barrier right? My incubator is just 2 tubs with a 100w aquarium heater and water in the one. Is there anything I need to do to the water in this tub to keep it from growing any nasties or anything? I really appreciate any help you guys can give me. I am just trying to keep any mistakes down to a minimum. |

Correct verm is the barrier. You can add some bleach to the water do help keep it fresh and you can change it out every so often. Remember to unplug the aquarium heater b4 so it doesn't overheat if exposed to air. Best Wishes!

Good news I got 12 jars in the incubator now. I knocked up 6 with Brazilian and 6 with Cambodian. Hopefully I will have some mycelium growing in there and not some mold heh. I followed Pythons version of the PF Tek (thanks for the good write up man) and was very careful the whole way through. Now they are in the tub in tub incubator at a little under 80F. I will make a thread as soon as I have some more progress and hopefully if it all goes well you will get to see from beginning to end with pics. |
