Foaf took this pic of a jar that obviously has some contams. He is wondering why the growth seems to stop so evenly toward the bottom? Is this wetspot? and all the "wet" has drained to the bottom making it toxic to myc? If that is the case, what is the growth in the lower section, wetspot resistant myc? |

there is no o2 for the myc down there it would be best if you left room at the top to shake it up and air everything out if you do this at 50% colonization the other 50% will go much faster

This jar was shaken when it was innoculated. It shot up with karo made from a print. Foaf is pretty sure it was the print that was contammed as nothing else (other strains) were contammed. He says it smells fruity or maybe even like overripe apples, that's why he was thinking wetspot. He's just never seen a border like that either, especially since it was well shaken initially, so the myc should have been spread throughout the wbs. It is seperated from everything else and is in quarantine. He is planning on keeping it at lower temps so growth is slowed, then he wants to bury it outside in a poo/straw bed once the weather has warmed up to see if anything grows. He doesn't want to pitch it, but he also doesn't want to try to grow it inside. He'd prefer the jar stay shut until he can bury it outside. |

That's the damndest thing i've ever seen. See how the mycelium is fuzzing up like it's hitting contams or a very wet substrate? But the seed looks fine. It could be a gas exchange problem. (Message edited by looper on February 10, 2005)
