A friend of mine mentioned to me about a site (mycotopia) that had some very powerful information in regards to mushroom growing as well as very deep, abstract and insightful discussions on almost any topic non relating to it, from existance of humans to favorite music. So I checked it out and I've been here since. There has been periods when I've been gone for months but I still post from time to time. For the most parth though, I'm a hermit...and just like to read.

Well, I did shrooms more than twenty years ago while in college....then got responsible and raised a family....then the ex decided life was not so good - or at least my presence wasn't warranted anymore, so I get to live another chapter....or lived one dream, get to live another. Was looking into growing my own herb, and stumbled across the discussion about growing ur own shrooms, and viola! First jars/cakes in the fruiting chamber as I speak, and totally stoked about the chance to not only do shrooms in like 20+ years, but to trip on ones that I have grown myself! What am I looking for with my tripping? enlightenment, a walk to another dimension, and just some plain ole good fun! the people, the discussion, everything rocks! Life is awesome after divorce! |

I hadn't had shrooms for probably 6 or 7 years. I always loved 'em, and I really missed them. A friend had some one day and they were very expensive and pretty lousy. One day I just started looking up info and found the Shroomery and Mycotopia. I had never thought about growing my own until that day. After lurking at both boards for a few months, I joined the 'Topia. The members here seemed more mature and respectful of each other. A couple months later, I had that wonderful day of trying my own shrooms for the first time. It was such a sense of accomplishment and happiness to know "hey, I really did this!" I come here and read about anything that catches my eye. I read about things I may never try, but it's all here... Just one giant treasure chest full of information. I love being a part of this community- Thank you Hippie, Zen, and all the mods for taking care of this place! |

I learned about the shroomery and almost joined in order to learn more about the hobby. People seem to flame and argue more their and I decided not to join. I later learned about this site and I started my project with great success. I owe a lot to this site and I wish I could be more of a part of it but I havent been around a place with the internet lately. Ive been on the move and Im lucky I have a few solid days where I can soak up some info until I have to leave. So I may be posten plenty of q's so please answer promptly because after the 3rd Im back on the move. By the way it is nice to see so many new folks have joined. Peace Squares |

I joined here due to my irresistible thirst for knowledge of a topic I can actually excel in. This is not rocket science, but at first can seem overwhelming. Also, moderators are excellent here. Some are a little sassy, but great overall.

when i was an unauthorized member i couldn't see the pics. I joined because I was researching on alternative sources for mushrooms, since Azareus Online Store wouldn't send me a grow kit. I had to join because otherwise I couldn't see the pics, but I'm glad I did and I'm glad I didn't buy a stupid grow kit on Azareus. Thanks all. | |

I wanna revise my answer a little, 'cause I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I joined so I could post a few specific questions. I posed those questions to Dial8 and Freakachino (can't remember who I talked to first, sorry!), because they both had such personable posting styles. Both seemed infinitely approachable. They were both so incredibly polite and friendly (and they were answering questions I realize at this point they had probably fielded a few hundred times already), that I was really entranced. Truth is, everybody was so nice, I was a little suspect at first. Places like this just don't exist in cyberspace. Hip was the one who really set the hook, though. Everything about this site is, in some way, a reflection of his personality and style. A huge part of that style, the part that really made me feel at home, is the thoroughly pervasive sense of equality on this board. Hip puts up with no shit from anybody. Doesn't matter if you are a Newbie or a Visiting Expert Mycologist - everybody is held to the same standards of civilized behavior. And the man actually has respect for people who hold opinions that are polar opposites of his own. That is very rare to find in a person with as much power as he weilds. When he archived my excessively wordy Amanita write up (one of my first big posts), even though he doesn't care for them, I was genuinely amazed. When I got the official invite to be a moderator, I have no shame at all in telling you guys that I cried, and whooped a little and then cride some more. Hell, I'm crying now thinking about it. I touched me very deeply that such amazing people would value my (admittedly) tiny bit of knowledge. You wonderful people and this wonderful site have changed my life in so many positive ways that I couldn't even begin to list them. At this point, I'm just trying to pay back my miracle! If I keep posting every day for 2-3 hours, I figure I'll just about break even by 2010...

Truly touching BB, that has to be the only post I have ever read that has made me feel..well the way I do. I must say that when this thread was started I was going through some crazy shit and many questions were locked in my mind with no answers, I think many were just answered with your post. ( I know you may not know wtf I'm talking about but thats ok. because I feel better) "thx for being you Mycotopia" ![]() now lets get drunk!!! ![]() \ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() BB, that post made me cry! I first joined Topia when I met Papashroom online and he told me I'd like this site. So I joined, and the rest is history. I've had so many wonderful times and made the best friends I'll never know here! I've had the honor of meeting one Topiate and that was a great experience for me! This website is more than just cyberspace to me. Its a true community of individuals who share knowledge and fun with me. When I had to take a vacation from the site, you all were there for me. I thank you for that. There's something special about Mycotopia and Hippie3 that I'll be able to carry with me for the rest of my life. And Hippie, I owe ya a; you were right, from a long discussion we had years ago on the old board. Somehow you knew all that time ago I was living in a fantasy world with my view of love I wonder if you remember that discussion lol???? And a special shout out to TCO Thanks for always being there for me and listening to me bitch about life! All you do for me will carry with me forever and I'm always sending you good happy vibes Thanks for sharing the albino with me, its a highlight of my mushroom experiences!I Mycotopia and always will! Sorry for getting so long winded, its just I can't help myself when I get to talk about Mycotopia!

I was at a friend's house and picked up a book on mushrooms. Hadn't done em in about twenty or more years. Got the itch. Started researching. Found shroomery, but never joined cuz it seemed a lot of the posts were bit immature and sometimes negative. Found this site, and the great vibes from you peeps, and knew it was my home. Cheers! I joined up cos I love growing shrooms....buying them wasn't an option when I started as they're pretty much unheard of 'round these parts! Also wanted to be able to post questions and use the chat room to chat with/learn from people with a similar head space to my own Quote:

I joined Mycotopia after stumbling across it when researching fungal-hobby info. I noticed a few things right away... 1. The amazing layout complete with tons of hidden areas, sweet spots, vaults, trashbins, galleries and rich features of chatting, messaging, searching. 2. Extremely well run threads that are free and open ,but lack the aggressive trolling and name-calling that 99% of ALL other boards (on any subject) get. That in its self is one of my favorite things about this place. No one gets jumped! 3. The learning curve in here is phenominal. You can almost smell the synapsis burning as day and night, mycotopians are learning, inventing, relearning and reinventing the "TEK's" and explaining them to others in laymens terms. 4. Sense of community is high. Not only do people release their findings in an "open-source" fashion, but they also encourage others, offer humour, ancidotes, knowledge, support on SO many levels. Dare I say ... you can feel the love ... I know that sounds cheezy but what the heck. ![]() 5. The archives are so very valueable, precious really. An international treasure and the sum total of many 1000's of hours of trial and error by very dedicated souls. The archives and this site in general are on par with a university and knowing them is like getting a PHD (Psliocybe Hippie3 Diploma) There are many more reasons why I joined and why I choose to learn here, some I havent even thought of yet. I find this site inspiring (to say the least) and it constantly makes the wheels in my head go round, and round! I stand in awe of how this all nicely came together and now I can plug'n'play! Thanks to everyone ![]() I look forward to seeing you all around and sharing with you Lastly I want to thank the sacred mycelium , thanks for everything! With Love M |

i dont know about the sex or rock and roll, but definately the drugs! i think i was researching where to get psilocybe spores. so i googled "psilocybe spores" and got shroomery and multiple venders selling it. then i decide i need to know how do i do it. so i google "mushroom cultivation"... another shroomery thread, but after some lurking around shroomery i found a link here and the rest is history.

![]() | thanks, i wont. my bro just taught our buddy how to grow about 4 months ago, had him join here also back then. since then, he has lurked and caught up from where my bro left off, and since i talk to both daily, i usually just ask them over aim for quick response. like my bro never did anything but cakes, and our buddy only does pans, so its like having tech support on speed dial might have to find someone who does petry dishes, lol. it was nice just to take over my bro's old setup, only needed to get some rubbing alcohol, some new syringes, and some rye berries to start. i coulda used his old rye flour & verm to make cakes, but i wanted to try pans first.

This is why i joined mycotopia. They are both full of good info and growers, but for some reason i like mycotopia's personality better.

Because I was bound and determined to grow mushrooms from that one spent cake that put out two more mushrooms a litle more tahn six years ago . It was given to me by a friend of a friend that lived states away . That poor boy went thru so much shit to get to me, and I just had to give him a fighting chance. I named him George.. I know for a fact that the original culture I started damn near six and a half years ago is still in use today. From that one tiny ity bity little pice of George I put on my first agar plate He has flourshed into a gigantic specimean of love and O my fucking god... He is a Mazaptek and ive still got spores from him . But George him self is still going strong thru cloning tisue directly. And thats how I started . The mushrooms became my budy George and I had to learn how to talk to him Bob Smith (Maliki) Posted on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 06:38 am: Edit Post Quote Text Delete Post Print Post Move Post (Moderator/Admin Only) Whats the average length of life of a cake? I voted for joining before I voted against joining. Or was it that I voted against joining after voting for it that I decided to vote against it before I voted for it to join? I really don't remember. --------------------------------------------- "How can you tell when a politician is lying?" .... when their lips are moving. |
