| Why did you join Mycotopia
I was curious as to why many of you joined. Whether you love Mushrooms, Mj, want to learn more about DMT, you want to teach others, you wanted to learn? I joined to learn how to grow shrooms. I dont like buying from people cause I have a trust issue. Although I started this hobby so that my wife and myself could enjoy a psychedelic experience in the privacy of our home with no one else knowing about it. I have learned so much more than just the "How to" or "know how". I've learned about things that before I didn't even know existed, met really great peeps and come to really enjoy the company. I would enjoy reading the "why" in why yall are here. Is it to teach, learn, meet people with common interest, your a mycologist, you love the hobby, or whatever. Or you can share that you just love to get f@!%ed up and the rest is none of my business. lol All is welcome and please share your story with us. |

I guess the settings were changed, Hippie3. Before I joined most posted pics were displayed as links. Clicking on the links took me to a page that says you gotta be a member to see them. Now posted pics are either full size or thumbnails.

how it should be is viewable to all. i gotta kinda watch old Zen, as the guy who sells me bandwidth he has an interest in saving a bit here and there, but i explained to him my position and restored the settings as they should be. but it might be screwed up again, i'll double check to make sure.

I think you misunderstood, Hip. Currently if your not a member you don't have access to all the pics. The only way to see all the pics is to join. But that does save bandwidth so that is good isn't it? Enough great pics are shown that I wanted to see the rest so I joined.

![]() ![]() | For me it was a combination of that and i ran into the cofee project and straw log teks from here were discussed over there. So when a certain moderator and i had a difference of opinions he couldn't take the heat so he banned me. Its whatever, i'll keep my distance and get my shots in at opportune moments... I do however like the abundance of info without all the repeat posts over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and so on and so forth (all in the same day mind you) But i tend to frequent both boards to expand my knowledge base.

About three years ago I tried mushrooms for the first time.. and the hook sunk deep. I repeated the experience several times over a span of a few months and I guess sort of began a personal transformation. Many aspects of my life and relationships changed.. some of the bad things faded away, and some of the good things were strengthened. Overall I think my values changed. I began researching mushrooms online and reading a lot of books. I loved reading Terence McKenna and listening to audio clips of him online. I read Stamets, Huxley, Kerouac, HST, and many others. Online I read through a lot of erowid and would stop by the shroomery. But the vibe in the shroomery just isn't my style. Somewhere, perhaps at the shroomery, I was linked to mycotopia. When I came here I immediately felt at home. I lurked for a long time, but the comforting black background and laid-back and intelligent members were very encouraging. I joined mycotopia to learn more about growing mushrooms, but have gotten a lot more than that. There are a lot of things to appreciate about the community here at mycotopia. Members are extremely helpful in answering questions (and know their stuff). Members here also tolerate newbies like me (thanks!); and I'm a real newb because I have little-to-no grow experience unlike some other new members I see. And not to sound corny but people here actually seem to care about others. Mycotopia is the only online community I belong to and I'm happy to be here. |

A few years ago I reached a point in my life where I just really started to wonder if this is all there was to it. I had basically acheived all of the things in life I had anticipated for myself and I hit a kind of psychic dead spot. I suppose when it all said and done it might just be a run of the mill mid-life crisis but it felt more existential than that, or at least that seems to denigrate it when it was a much more profound kind of ennui than that would suggest. Anyway, I harkened back to earlier times whan I had felt the most at home in the univrse, the most balanced and the most at peace and they all seemed to grow out of psychedelic experience. In the 20 years or so since I had tripped I had always retained a kind of fascination and respect for psychedelics but had fallen out of the subculture entirely. So gradually I began to start formulating a plan for having another psychedelic experience. All of the normal channels were closed to me so I started researching various options and eventually found my way here. Since then I have grown to respect the people here not just for their knowledge but for their wisdom. Its a great bunch of people and I feel quite lucky to have found you all.

About 5 months ago, my husband brought up the idea of "tripping" on shrooms. I had tripped once before but everything that could have gone wrong, did. I have had my experiementation with drugs and was not at the point where I felt I needed to go that route again. I'm not all into getting messed up for the hell of it. But with a little encouragement and education, I became a willing, nervous, but willing participant. So our search began for the almighty psychedelic mushroom. Well with a FOAF's (literally) resources lost to contams we were at a stand still. CoyoteMesc is persistent. With no luck in the purchase department, his focus shifted to growing our own and eventually, through research we were led to Mycotopia. I spent many days reading over CM's shoulder. Then I began to form opinions on posts and it didn't take long for me to sign in under his name and post. Well, that didn't last long as it quickly became confusing for the readers. So it was either no longer post or join. Obviously you know which one I chose. This community is so diverse and filled with knowledge and even those that have put in their time to mycology still learn and try new things. Mycology seems to be forever changing. While there is the trusty PF tek, there are sooo many other out there creating new teks, that encourage you to learn. They really get the creativity flowing. As for mushies, they have exceeded my expectations. I have learned so much about myself as I am one who believes that personal growth is necessary and never ceases. So with all that being said, Thank you CM for sharing this with me and letting me be envolved, even though I leave the humidifier on too high sometimes and forget to fan. Ya know I love you! Thank you to all of you that have helped us along the way. Last but not least, thank you Hippie for sharing your vision with us and allowing us to partake in it.

I recently came to Mycotopia with very limited knowledge. I have had a few psychedelic experiences, and I am definitely interested in widening my experiences. I like doing research, and learning new things; I'm constantly reading about things that interest me and trying to participate in discussions about them. Upon arriving at Mycotopia a few days ago I realized how little I actually know about psychedelics, etc. I've found a lot of things that have been keeping my mind busy the past few days in the vaults and the archives. I'm very interested in growing mushrooms and salvia divinorum plants, but I do not think I am ready for them yet. So I am going to continue reading, learning, and discussing until I feel that I am ready. I'm definitely looking forward to any advice anyone can give me. |

I wandered in late one evening, on the end of a lovely string of links, reading odd bits of philosopy. I joined to ask a question or two, on my quest to acquire this terribly interesting skill in home mycology. I've stayed for the peeps and the info and the vibe. I stay because occasionaly, here, I catch a glimps of the same beast that drew me to so many Dead shows. I've also stayed to teach, 'cause I'm good with words and massaging them to help people understand stuff and feel confident. I deeply enjoy sharing knowledge. Good thread, man.

Ah, but too many folks can sink even a big boat. Just as too many pinheads can wreck even a big country. Just look at France. Damn, I'm in a feisty mood tonite.

i don't think that's what i said.. lemme re-read it real quick.. no, i definitely did not say that. but since you asked nicely then yes, IF someone is asked to leave then of course they should. i would not stay at someone's house if they asked me to leave. i'm definitely not Noah though, pretty sure on that one.

I've actually been around since the start. Mostly as a lurker off and on under a few different names. It was only last year I decided to stay on permanently as TCO. I've been cultivating longer than the topia has been around. I tell ya..it can be a mighty lonely hobby without a place like this. People you can share with that actually care...a place where it's sharing instead of showing off. Brilliant people with a great sense of humor and caring. Endless content...hell there are still many places here I've never been! I have some very personal reasons for being here as well but to some it up in general...it's the vibe .
