![]() ![]() | agreed, they were nomadic so weren't they always on the go? copied from article- ||| Clive Finlayson, an expert on Neanderthals and director of the Gibraltar Museum, disagreed with the finding's significance. "I would have been surprised if Neanderthals didn't move at least 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) in their lifetime, or even in a year ... We're talking about humans, not trees," Finlayson said. ||||

![]() | yeah, just tracking a herd might take one 30 miles. plus some trade in tools most likely occured and traders travel long distances.

![]() ![]() | That's the question though- were they mobile or not? Early humans, H. sapiens, were hunters and trackers. And they were migratory- we spread all over in a few generations. Neanderthals seem to have been homebodies. 12.5 miles isn't that far, but nobody thought they traveled much at all, since they weren't very widespread. Also interesting to me are the theories on interbreeding between species... it's possible that we got where we are as a result of 'hybrid vigor', that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. If early human males encountered Neanderthal females... well, they didn't have beer goggles but they could have improvised something. ![]() |
