I really dont know anything about web design or what imposing a new skin on topia will do. When we hit threads to read them will they still have dark backdrop like we have now? The v bulletin white is kinda hard on the eyes after a period of time.

hey hip, that sounds cool. we should also test it as well to see how it reads. make sure its not too muddy. although i think it would be fine.

yeah, i'm going for an even thousand to ensure any over-run is covered. but we still have to wait now for the release of the new vbulletin version- should be pretty sooon hopefully.

Just held 2 auctions for the skin upgrade one cube , one pan.

both raised $100 each for a total of $200

I offered the cube bidder to match his highest which was $100
I offered the pan bidder to match 50% , so it ended up being 1/2 of $100

That makes a total of $200 bidders donations plus $150 from me matching funds

Total take for mycotopia's skin upgrade

sshaaasshhhing, ding, ding

$350

I'll be sending my portion tomorrow and the others will send with a note saying winner of hyphaenations pan auction or cube and they will send in their "hundey"

Will the new Topia be Crackberry friendly?
Currently it is damn near impossible to read
and post using a crackberry.

This site needs an encrypted SSL login page. Every time you put in your username/password, it is transmitted to your server in cleartext. Go here Online Traceroute and put mycotopia.net as the hostname and click Go. Without a SSL login, any one of the those computers in between you and topia can EASILY obtain your username/pass. Any public place you login (school), the network admin can EASILY obtain your username/pass. If your neighbor hacked your wifi he could EASILY obtain your username/pass. If you use tor proxy - Tor: anonymity online - the last computer in the node still can EASILY obtain your username/pass. All of these different scenarios and more can happen w/o you ever knowing.

So why aren't all webpages encrypted? SSL uses a lot of CPU resources. This shouldn't be a problem for topia since you don't have hundreds or thousands of logins per second, and only the login page would need to be encrypted (whole site would be cool though...) Topia servers should easily handly 100+ SSL logins per second.

So this is how you fix this problem: You have to have a single login page encrypted w/a SSL certificate. This certificate can be generated yourself for free, or you can buy one for $20+/year. This means you wouldn't be able to quickly login on the top of any topia page - again you need one dedicated login page. Any web programmer/designer worth his salt can implement this needed feature easily.

The best way to do this is to basicly make another topia website like mobile.mycotopia.net. Than, mobile.mycotopia.net could be optimized for cell phones only. It's very doable. Maybe there could be another fundraiser for this in the future
