    Sensory Deprivation

    So, Mycotopia:

What can you tell me about sensory deprivation chambers / isolation tanks? I'm familiar with the concept, but how many people have actually experienced one?

    -lucid

For those who have never heard of such a thing or how it relates to this site, I'd recommend watching Joe Rogan talk about it in this video.

There are many ways of sensory deprivation. For example sleep deprivation and others. Basically you start tripping haaaard after some long time. It ain't easy to reach that point though.

Haven't tried the chamber, but I'd so love to, heh.

I can't imagine tripping while deprived of sleep would be at all enjoyable, but maybe I am way off base. What could one expect from such a voyage?

It seems common for people to want to trip in a dark room, but is it also common for someone to put on headphones to block external noise? I'm looking for some tips from the more veteran users who have experimented around with different ways of approaching a trip.

Why would you be deprived of sleep?

The water is body temperature an has 800 pounds of salt..So makes you not notice the water makes you fell as if floating.Your senses are not in use.It would be a Record breaking experience for sure. IMO i would love to experiance it.

I cant watch the vid at the moment, but I spent half a summer dosing liquid while at the beach. I had several nights in the water for hours, nothing but the ocean and sand around me! Crazy deep thoughts! By the end of the visit (still plenty of liquid) I was begging people to take me home, I swear I didn't sleep but maybe twice a week, when I finally got home I didnt come out of my room for a week!

I have always wanted to build one. From what I understand, it is great for people who suffer from insomnia. A 20 minute float is supposed to equal up to 6 hours sleep. Perhaps I can talk Soosh into building one for me. We will be getting a jacuzzi soon and the combo would be heaven on earth. Plus, Epsom salt is very very good for your skin as well.

I've always wanted to try one of those out. I have heard very cool things. I think I would want to try one before I built one though.

Oh yeah and this doesn't have too much relevance because it's a cartoon, but the Simpsons tripped their asses off in a deprivation chamber.

My experience with a float tank was simply amazing. I ate not too potent brownie before i went in, which probably led to me falling asleep the several times that i might have, after awhile, everything was just surreal, I wasnt sure if I was dreaming, i think that i didnt even care which was the beauty in it. I was in a state of absolute serenity.

coming out of the tank, i think i was in for almost 1 1/2 hours, it felt like a rebirth. sitting up for the first time, moving in a vertical plane after being horizontal for so long (although it felt like i was tumbling for quite some time in the duration). All in all, just try it. Everyone will experience it differently. I had a body high for the next three days afterwards. Definitely worth the 65 dollars i paid up in jersey.

the sensory deprivation tank sounds like something i have to try.

I've heard about sleep deprivation, it can be dangerous because at day 6 your brain starts to deteriorate and neurons die. That's bad.
No doubt it'll make you trip though. A friend of mine stayed up for 4 days strait and day 3 he started hallucinating birds and shadows that disapeared when he looked directly at them. It got progressively worse from that point on. Thankfully he was able to get some sleep the fifth day.

I've gone 5 days without sleep and 6 days. The 5 days sucked. I was hallucinating both times. The 6 day time happened to be on the 4th of July so the visuals were pretty cool. Now I take generic Benedryl or if I have it weed and no more insomnia.

So during a shroom trip, how long would you spend in the float tank? I have heard repeatedly that those two are an incredibly potent combination, but a trip lasts hours! All I have so far is speculation. Any more knowledge out there?

And Eastwood, to answer your question I don't know. I only brought up sleep deprivation because koldjgdaro brought it up in the post before yours.
