Sending $ Through The Mail

What do you guys think about sending cash through the mail? I recently placed an order w/Spore Works, and I'd rather not use my debit card..I've carefully concealed, and actually adhered my payment to the inside of an envelope, as to keep it from moving around and becoming visible to anyone through the light. What are the chances of someone stealing my mula?! Also, I scotch taped the back-side closed, to further prevent any temptations from outsiders Lol..So my question is..How many of y'all make cash payments through the mail, and how has it worked out for you in the past? Any input much appreciated.

Man I sent ralph some Cash and I am paranoid about alot of crap but cash in the mail if i'm gonna loose it. iT'S Gone don't sweat the little stuff. Life is too short man, If I have the choice i just use my card it's waaaay easier. You should be Ok make it look like a regular letter and noone will even think twice.

I would hope that the money would get there at leat 90% of the time. Think about how many great aunts send $$ in B-day cards and such. I have sent cash through the mail and never had issues, but it is always a gamble........don't send more than you are comfortable loosing.
Another thing you can do is to buy a "Visa gift card" and use that. Plenty of my FOFs use that system all the time. It works and you don't have to worry about someone getting into your bank account.

Like a regular letter? Interesting..Can you elaborate a bit?

My return addy is printed directly on all my envelopes, is that "regular?"

On another note, my handwriting is pretty sloppy..legible, but sloppy. It certainly dosen't look "professional" or anything (Not something I would suspect contained money, anyway)

Why not just pay $.50 or $1 and get a money order? Banks, grocery stores, the post office, they're everywhere. If I were to send cash (I wouldn't however) I would wrap it up in 2 or 3 sheets of white printer paper so that it is not visible under light. I wouldn't tape it up. I saw a story on people that work for airlines and the stealing of luggage and things out of people luggage. They said that if there is no lock they don't even look. They said when people use those little locks then that is an indication that there might be something worth stealing inside.

Yeah, Makes sense..Now I wish I hadn't dropped my envelope in the mailbox already. Maybe I can still go down and dig it out!!

Are those the cards they sell at Wallgreens, Rite Aid, etc?

Yeah, if you get it at your bank usually there is no fee though. If you get it at Walgreens etc..... there is a $5 fee on a $25 card usually and on a $50 or $100 card it even goes up. They rape you IMO. Money orders are a cheaper way to go. But then again you can't do a M.O. online.

Simon owned malls offer an unlimited gift card (I think) for around $2. You do need to watch though there are some weird terms with said cards. Like you have to use it in a certain time period or they charge you a fee. M.O. are the cheapest and easiest, but do not allow for online. FOAF used to ship lots of Ozers through the mail in a box the size of a VHS (remember those) and stamp "Jesus loves you" on it, but otherwise it didn't have extra tape or any devise to make it secure. He did it for years and no trouble. I do not suggest anyone do this though. He was lucky, Gilligan / Bob Denver was not.

I'm sure it will be fine. If you were to do it over and over and over, I think eventually you would get burned, but I doubt from 1 time.

Right..It's an odds game. I will probably get a money order, or just use plastic next time

i have sent cash a few times and never gotten burned, but i do prefer MO's. most of the sponsers here accept MO's. wrap the money in paper just as if it was a letter to someone. there is this place called bill me later which we have used too with good results. they take the money from your checking account so you arent giving private info to more people than you have to. it doesnt seem to be popular yet but there is a list of companies at bill me later that do accept it. maybe it will catch on. similar to paypal i guess but we didnt have any probs with them and at paypal it was one thing after another trying to get them to accept our bank, and they still denied it.

Paypal blows. If they think that spores are involved or if for any reason they want really they will freeze your account indefinitely and you won't ever see your money again.

Hah, I only use it to buy/sell legal stuff..Such as on Ebay, etc.

I would never order seeds/spores through PayPal, though. Yikes!!

Knock on wood, but I've had no problems with cash in the mail. To England, Canada and Spain, only a few times, but so far so good.

Use the fewest and largest-denomination bills possible; get fresh really flat ones, so the wad is as thin as possible. I've used a greeting card, too, to hide the bulk.

One option I've seen is to just send a money order (international if necessary), nothing written in but who it's made out to. But I can't remember who had that one.Anyway, it seems pretty reliable.

I just got an email from the Spore Works, titled "The Spore Works: Your order #***** payment has been accepted." Now, I don't have any experience ordering from these guys in the past..Does this mean they got the envelope? I sure hope so!!

I agree, if I didnt use a card then i would just get a money order. I personally would feel more confidant that there would not be a prob.

Btw, cash got through to Spain fine again. Just got notified. I was sweatinga little, 'cause I've heard of occasional troubles with the Spanish postal system.
