    Question Suitable for microscopy pics?

I recently came across this handheld digital microscope. heres the specs as advertised.
This handheld digital microscope from Celestron® runs off a USB port and displays the results right on your laptop screen. Magnifies from 20X to 400X. (Has a 7.5mm field of view at 20X, 1mm at 400X.) Resolution is 1.3MP. The unit measures 5" long x 1-3/8" dia with a 60" cord, and a built-in white LED illuminator. Lets you view and capture images or video directly to disc. Enormous possibilities for home, school, medical offices, labs. Comes with an installation CD and requires Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and Vista, a CD or DVD drive, and a USB
Would this be suitable for nice clear microscopy pics? Anyone have one?

Yeah I got one of those a few weeks ago, its really neat to mess around with, but you cant get close enough to a spore to tell its shape or anything. Ill try again to post some pics i took with it, although I havent had luck getting pics up here yet. I searched around the web and found one for 80 bucks i think, ill try to find the site. You can take videos with it too.

You can't get true 400x magnification with that. The best quality stereo (dissecting) microscope using reflected light can only get usable magnification up to 100x. They are probably using software to magnify the image up to 400x which won't add any detail. My experience with this type of inexpensive handheld microscope is that the magnification tops out at around 40x true magnification which is far below what is needed for mushroom identification. Save your money.

Thanks for replies. I figured as much. Not gonna spend the money if I cant get clear pics of spores. Oh well I'll keep an eye open for a good deal on something a lil more powerful.
