![]() | Need info on water filtration Ok, this is probably gonna sound strange but here goes: I live in a town in Oregon that has such bad water you can't drink it, use it to cook with, wash your fruits or veggies with it, etc. {I wouldn't have moved here if I had known but now have a 1 year lease to live thru} Anyway, I am going broke buying water and have been trying to figure out how to make a slow drip filtering system. {Brita filters are useless on this stuff, it's full of ag chemicals, sometimes it stinks pretty bad--not sulfer--and sometimes it is as brown as a cup of tea...no one here drinks this stuff} I was thinking of using the activated charcoal that is sold for aquarium filters but haven't been able to find much info on it. It all says "lab quality"...is that a good enough grade for humans? Has anyone here ever made a filtering system? Currently the best I am thinking of is a science experiment I found on the web, just using cut 2 liter pop bottles, seems simple enough but I also saw a pix of someone's set up that looked like a large coffee urn. I don't have an urn but was thinking if I could get one at the thrift store maybe I could load it with the coal & line it with cheesecloth and coffee filters...anyone out there with experience that can help me? |

![]() | ro A lot of peep here have tried everything under the sun to make the water potable but nothing has worked, that's why I am thinking of making a filter similar to an aquarium filter---this is NOT for fish but for human consumption. Peep here who have fish tanks use bottled water cuz the tap water kills the fish!! I am getting desperate to find a way to filter this water without going broke. Any ideas will help me! I was thinking that a very slow drip thru the charcoal might remove enough of the crap to make it usable and save me some money in the bargain...we have no idea how much water we use until we can't! Wolf you could use a pressure cooker and make a still. I would say either an r/o system or buy 5gal jugs.
