Jack Springer LEVEL +10 - IN GOOD STANDING
Seeking info re: MICROBIOLOGY and HUNTING

    To all,
I am writing a play, part of which is set in
Arcada and at Humboldt State University.

I understand there is some science indicating
that some mushrooms contain something that
shrinks some tumors. There may be NIH funding.
I want to learn more specifics.

I also understand that dogs like to eat certain
    genera of mushrooms. True?

I also understand that dogs may be trained to
hunt mushrooms by smell. True? Can dogs
learn to look for certain genera or species?
    Could spaniels be trained?
    thanx. Jax

    hi jack!
for some of youre questions:some people use trained dogs to find truffle. i don' know about dog training but i guess if you know how you could train a dog to find anything that have a distinctive smell.
there are mushrooms like reishi and shitake that have chemicals in them which might prevent some sorts of cancer .

Lots of stories about dogs finding and eating mushrooms. Don't know if it's just certain ones, or what.

And as stated above, you certainly could train a dog to find them.

There are many products/supplements that make these claims.
I do not know of any well done clinical trails, but that doesn't mean they are not out there check out this link

Never heard that one...or at least dogs in general...they are the most diverse single species on the planet. It makes sense that they are all a little different in their tastes. LOL

I believe pigs are favored, but I know dogs can be used. I have heard they eat far less truffles than the pigs do. Check this link for some info.

This is just some stuff I looked up quickly I hope it helps.
    Gluck with the play!!!
