Man Uses Barbie Fishing Rod to Make Record Catch

Man Uses Barbie Fishing Rod to Make Record Catch

    Quote:
David Hayes' granddaughter just ask him to hold her Barbie rod and reel while she went to the bathroom. He did. And seconds later he landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce.

Alyssa's father had bought the pink Barbie rod for Christmas and she had caught a few bluegill before her grandfather hauled in the catfish.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported the catch Aug. 5 in eastern Wilkes County has been certified as a record by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

Hayes and his granddaughter have been fishing in the pond behind his house since she was big enough to hold a pole.

Hayes said his granddaughter worried he would break her rod. He landed the 21-pound fish on a 6-pound test line. It was 32 inches long, 2 inches longer than the rod.

Hahahaha that's what I was thinking; that freaking catty would have pulled that poor girl right along with him! I can't believe that little rod (or the weak line it was sporting) didn't snap, though...either there was no fight left in an old fish, or that old man knows his shit. Can't say I've caught anything that big with a "big boy" rod in a long, long time. Way to go, Gramps! Maybe this will boost sales of Barbie fishing gear?? Which, by the way, it's a laugh and a half to be told is in existence...like, seriously, a Barbie fishing rod?

    LMAO!!
    Saw that one myself.
Funny thing is, this isn't the first time I've heard of using a Barbie Fishing rod.

Check back-issues of Field and Stream - Last year I think.

'Ol Barbie was pitted against some of the best and held her own!

Looks like it may be the old faithful 202. Caught a many of fish with those reels. It doesn't shock me at all, as a lot of Musky have been caught with those reels from trout fisherman.

A couple of my friends keep a sponge bob collapsible fishing rod in the glove box for if we ever just stumble across a good looking fishin hole or stream.

We have ate good many of nights thanks to mr. square paints
