![]() | Using a proxy to hide IP
I was stumbling through the Archives and came upon an interesting one which talked about Internet Security and Proxies. In short it said that once u log onto a site the server garners info such as ur IP and other relevent info about ur computer and info about where that IP is located. I started thinking about "Johnny" and thought," What if Johnny is creeping around Mycotopia (which I'm sure they pop in evry now and again). Is it really smart to post grow logs and such unless ur using a proxy??? Does the DEA and such need to contact the Admins of this site before they attempt to get any info about a users IP?? I tried to be a member of the "other site" and it wouldn't let me because I was using a proxy.....this site also. So I don't use a proxy for this site. Unless it was because of something having to do with my firewall setup (which it wasn't I don't think). Does that make me or anyone else more suseptible to Johnny, especially when now the State Dept. can do whatever they want when it comes to internet security?? I consider myself pretty smart, and noone knows about my hobby but my wife, but am I smart to post grow logs and such?? I am under the impression that the DEA isn't really interested in shrooms, but should I remove my grow log or is there something I'm not aware of ?? ![]() |

I have seen people run programs that will show where you live and what computer you are using.. it is set up in their signature.. But LE will get you if they want to get you.. it is just a simple fact. another site I belong to has a proxi downlowd to hide yours.. it is pretty neat but again I learned they dont help you at all when they decide they want you

![]() | the deal with proxies
I'm actually trying to get a job with computer networking. i'm taking this real technical classes and have just gotten through the basic computer hardware classes, so I'm no expert. from what I know though, when you connect to a site, you're trading packets of information, your i.p. is always public. I don't know if a proxy server can change that. try going to run, and type in cmd in your command prompt, use these commands ping (+the internet site, you'd have to ping mycotopia as ping mycotopia.net) try tracert + the internet site (you'd trace mycotopia as tracert mycotopia.net) plus you can usually see what i.p.'s have connected to you by typing in such commands as: netstat -a nbtstat -c or arp -a to find the host name of YOUR dns server type in nslookup finding more information about what computer connects to you is beyond me at this point, I think some people can actually lookup your entire ip configuration but I could be wrong as I think that's illegal obviously to find your ip configuration type in ipconfig/all in the command prompt window |

It would be really simple for authorities to track you down if they really wanted to. The thing that protects us, for the time being, is that it does require lots of specialized technical knowledge to arrange without the forum owner's permission and that expertise is expensive. It's not worth the trouble unless there is evidence for a serious conviction. IP addresses are public. You can't get information back without giving out your return address. An IP address gives someone a way to contact your router. If they can get into your network then they are a password away from access to all the files on your PC. What do YOU have on your hard drive? I don't think I want Jesus or Big Brother in mine... An IP address can be cross-linked to find your MySpace page, your RapidShare posts, your Porn browsing, and all the files you share on BitTorrent. The only thing that saves us is that we are all a little guilty somehow and kicking each other's doors down is pretty fucking ridiculous. |

Oh, I forgot: http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/index_en.html Java Anonymous Proxy is a great way to browse anonymously. It will encrypt the data you send so that the Arabian terrorist bastard running the proxy you feel so safe in using can't do exactly what you are trying to avoid. |

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol used for distributing files, with centralized servers required.

![]() | haha thanks I have never tried this, though and dont even know how to do it. I just know you can boot from thumb drives and if you combine that with a version of windows that is bootable on a flash drive like a live linux cd, tor, and gpg encryption.. you would be a kung fu master |
