can you grow cacti and other plants together?

Was reading on what to do with my cacti for the winter, was wondering if I could pot them in with my other plants either in a green house or under the hps with my other plants?

not in the same pots as your other plants as they would cause rot, as most soils for plants are meant to retain moisture, and cact must have soils that drain moisture very quickly, so if you were to plant your cactus in the same pot as say a aloe plant, that would cause the cactus it rot as that soil would be to wet for to long for it, and during the winter you DON'T want to water your cacti at all unless you notice it starting to shrivel, and your soil temp must stay above 70 degrees and length of time below that and they will go dormant and if you water while dormant that will cause rot and other bad problems.

Your HPS should hold enough give the cactus plenty of light, so keep it on like as a 14/10 or 16/8 light cycle, but, its best to just let a cactus to go dormant for the winter honestly.

I have seeds for a number of kinds of cacti that I wanted to start, should I just wait until the spring?

My house is always above 70.

Starting them in winter shouldn't be a big deal, I have quite a few times.
well if you have plants in your house and are thinking of starting some cactus seed, be warned about fungal pathogens, add a nice layer of sand to the top of the mix and don't push your seeds into the soil, just kinda press them dow a lil into the top layer of sand you you'll be fine, those lil seedlings will burn rather easliy though so mught be better with floros instead of a HPS unless you keep the hps up above them like say 4 feet.
