I would like to say thank you to all of the veterans who might be on mycotopia. Thank you for all that you have given to us as americans, thanks for sacrificing everything to let us have freedom. And to all of you who are not vets but do have one in the family thank them as well. With out you who have stood by our country thank you and GOD BLESS!!

Though I don't see my time in service as a sacrifice (though it often sucked in more ways than can be even comprehended by most civilians

). It was a MAJOR learning experience for me, I gained all kinds of knowledge and know-how and feel rather grateful for the time and opportunities I had while enlisted. Mostly I regret having gotten out too. Though civilian life is rather nice...

I enlisted 17 years ago today!

Living within walking distance of one of the largest military cemeteries in the United States gives me the oppertunity to see alot of new graves these days.

What is striking about the place is:
(1) its size, at least a quarter mile wide and a good half mile long...

(2) it's stark contrast to everything around it; it is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

(3) the sterility of the the place...white gravestones dress right dress, in
perfect military order, marking each Son/ Husband/ Father, lining up with the next Son/ Husband/ Father, ahead behind adjacent and diagonally opposite.
What you don't see is the carnage that put most of them there, the life force that was that soul before being snuffed out, and how this strange place becomes their final resting place...just like that.

And knowing what most soldiers know...that most of the graves are empty.
How sad a time and hellish place is this thing that war is
This grizzly beast who takes our young, never to give them back...never giving anything back but death and misery.

I salute my many Brothers and sisters in arms...and give hopes of resolve for those still in harms way.

I did a three year tour back in the day (76-79)

It was the :
"fastest, slowest, hottest, coldest, easiest, hardest, best, worst times of my life"

Rode wet and put away hard.
33 years ago...
I met some good guys, and some grate gals...

...(made friends that I still miss and think about to this day)
I was worked like a dog, did some harsh shit, witnessed some way harsh shit, smoked some even harsher shit, lived in another country for a year which was the shizzzit's! Saw a lot of America that I wouldn't have, and made a lot of shit on-a-shingle in the process.

Definitely, In the top ten shits...I did right in my life category.
