    books you enjoy!

Hey was wondering what books you mycotopiates have enjoyed? I will name a few that I enjoyed reading, Or am reading, or have the book and about to read...

The Elegant Universe (currently reading, talks about the string theory)
The Tao of physics (currently have not read yet)
Lord of the rings (love these books, have read them 3 times)
Harry Potter (have read all of them besides the last one)
Acid Dreams (very good book, if you want to know basically everything about what went on during those lsd times)

Shamanic experience (pretty good book. Basically it's a basic guide for things like your psychic abilities.)

High Priest (by tim leary very good book, I very much enjoyed reading this.)

Food Of the Gods (this is by terrence mckenna I loved this one!

Tree Of knowledge (forgot who wrote this, but enjoyed this one.)

Turn on Tune in and drop out (by tim again, this book is short but informative.)

I know sooo many more that i have read or seen at barnes and noble. Oh yeah and they have many books I love at a website www.pharmacratic-inquisition.com check out the books there!

    cool

Greetings Lucy, It is always nice to compare tastes with a fellow bibliophile.
If you are into high-energy physics/string thoery, Mr. Michio Kaku is a very good writer. Of particular mention are "Hyperspace" and "Parallel Worlds". Very good books. Also "Alice's Adventure into Quantumland" is very entertaining.

And who dosen't like Terence McKenna? Ever read anything by John C. Lilly? You wanna talk about out there! He was involved in early brain research, and inter-speices communication during the 60's. He also invented the floatation/isolation tank. Then he proceded to go-off-the-deep-end and became convinced of an impending alien invasion. Very scary stuff. Makes you think twice about EVER gettting high again.

For bottany/pharmacology I find Jonathan Ott very stimulating. He has been involved in the "underground" for many years and is very knowledgable about the history of "our" struggle.

What else do you read for fiction?

I find myself entering the main-stream more and more every year. Just started reading Tom Clancy books. You know "techno-thrillers". It's weird to go into a bookshoppe and be able to find what your looking for no problem, especially after years of priding myself on my collection of esoterica. Can anyone say "Journeys into the Bright World"?

Yeah, I dug Food of the Gods too
but right now I'm reading It by Stephen King (me likey, has a Cthulhu Mythos feel that I'm goin for right now)
and after that I'm gonna read some H.P. Lovecraft
and maybe I'll find some time to finish reading Growing Gormet and Medicinal Mushrooms, or the Illuminati Trilogy
not to mention I should surely reread a couple of my orchid books

and pretty soon teachers will have their own opinions of what I should be reading!

thanks, I saw a couple of those books you mentioned at barnes and noble. Ha ha that's funny you mentioned John Lily, my brother knows quite a bit about him. Didn't he overdose on ketamine? I heard He was using that isolation tank trying to reprogram his brain, while on high doses of ketamine and LSD. He also learned how to commune with the dolphins. I would LOVE to start getting into botany, so I will check around for some of Mr. Ott's books. I'm really getting into physics so I will check out alice adventure into quantumland, sounds interesting. I am getting into mycology too, but will hold back on a bit, in that particular field for now. There's so many books out there, and so little time to read, drives me nuts how fast things are moving.

There will be plenty of informative information coming along soon, with that 100th anniversary of Albert Hofmann. I wish soooooo bad I could have goon. There will be so many excellent speakers, expressing themselves there. I want to meet Alexander Shulgin and a number of others who will be there.

    bye

The Snow Leopard by Peter Mathiesen. Anything by that author is a good read.

Mmm I need to read more.

I'm also tryin to finish Elegant Universe.
"The Mind and the Brain - Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force" by Jeffrey Schwartz - still incomplete
"Quantum - A guide for the Perplexed" by Jim Al-Khalili - still incomplete

I've seen Tao and Physics and I know I'll eventually get to that.
I've also seen Acid Dreams. Seems good too.

    Fiction writers:
Fantasy - R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy and his other fantasy books.
Sci-Fi - Orson Scott Card is a good author. Still got some books of his I need to finish.

http://www.albany.edu/writers-inst/matsnsa.html The Snow Leopard (1978), winner of a National Book Award. Written out of his increasing interest in Zen, The Snow Leopard recounts his trip to the remotest parts of Nepal with the naturalist George Schaller in search of the Himalayan blue sheep and the rarely seen snow leopard. In bittersweet remembrance following the death of his wife, Matthiessen confronts the beauty, mysteries and often violent world of the Himalayas and his own equally strange and difficult feelings of life and death. W. Ross Winterowd called The Snow Leopard “a magnificent achievement, having all the power of a great novel . . . ”

If we're talking fiction, I'd recommend anything by Philip K. Dick (especially "Ubik" and "Through a Scanner Darkly")

Non-fiction? Well, apart from those already mentioned, "Why People Believe Weird Things" by Michael Shermer is an interesting read.
If your brain would like a hard think, "Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid" by Douglas R. Hofstadter will give you plenty of food for thought!

Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets (pub. Oct 2005). Awesome book, great how-to for row after row of cubes outdoors in leached manure, plus lots of ideas for innovating potential legit business ideas involving mycoremediation...

Pharmacotheon by Jonathan Ott (1996 edition). It's out of print, I think, and I had to pay about 70 bucks on Amazon for it, but it was worth every penny. I would have paid a hundred after reading it. Get one while you can!

Entheogens and the Future of Religion Edited by David Frost, from the Council on Spiritual Practices. Many big names contributed (the Shulgin's, Hoffman, Ott, Wasson, etc.)

One River by Wade Davis; the story of Richard Evans Schultes in the Amazon plus a lot of world-changing historic events almost no one's heard of.

The Book of the Subgenius by various lunatics.

Bill Burroughs is pretty interesting; I've got a copy of the very first recording of him reading his poetry in 1963 (that has never been released anywhere, I got lucky) that is great.

Dune series by Frank Herbert (visionary tripper extraordinaire)

Hi guys and gals, I just read an interesting book, although out of print, I found it at a book store while visiting friends in Seattle.
    The book,
The Healing Journey, about a Chilean psychiatrist who was the first to publish papers on MDA and MMDA in therapy. He also has chapters on his work with hamaline and ibogaine..

I think all would appreciate reading this book if one can find it. I never heard of this man until I read his book.
