Im currently germinating, and 1 has just begun to poke out the seed so i need to plant later today or tonight, i know that drainage is good....but i only have a 2 foot tall rectangle bucket....is this going to drown the plant? or will it be ok to if i just dont over water? or...is there anything i can do very cheap to drain? like possibly holes in double dagged trash bag with the dirt and plant in it and just transfer the bag/plant to another bucket when i go to pour out the water from the other, will this harm the plant? any suggestions are welcome...cheap/free ones especially!

    Welcome chronic_zhen!

I would always start my seedlings in something smaller like a styrofoam coffee cup. Once the plants gets a nice root base then it can be transplanted to a larger pot.

i actually decided to go mc gyver on this shit HAHA, i made holes in the bottom of my smaller containers and have them sitting on a drain plate i found, and i have a larger bucket ready with holes i made in very bottom lower sides like a pot, then im gonna put gravel in the bucket bottom then the dirt on top, that should drain well, i also made a reflector to go around the light ficture out a aluminum tallcan since i was only able to get ahold of 100w Flourecents heh, really low budget but hey sometimes you need some bud!

Hey Zhen I'm new here too but this, is my forte and I'm here to lend advice.

You have the right idea, drainage is vital and so is a light, well-draining medium like potting soil with perlite in it. Better to stay on the dry side for seedlings, the idea is to coax the roots into searching for water and nutrient.

With decent medium and the flouros your seedling will grow nicely, but if it's buds you want then that is a whole other ballgame entirely. Luckily, this time of year the sun is roughly on a 12/12 light schedule so once your plant has 4 or 5 sets of mature leaves you could put it outside and it will flower all the way through to may.

Got any more questions I'll be hovering over the cannabis forum like a hawk. peace!
