    CFLs for weed

I have heard of a lot of people growing weed with Compact Fluorescent Lamps, and I'm wondering how well they work. Do CFLs work well for both flowering and vegetative growth? How do they compare to HPS in terms of bud production and generation of heat? TIA

My friends are 6 weeks into flowering with 2x 150W CFLs. They aren't the home "equivalent" lights though, they're actual CFL grow lights. The buds seem to be smaller than I'd expect with a HPS but it looks like good weed to me. The lights are extremely cool but direct contact with the bulb will burn leaves for sure.

The CFLs seemed to work equally well in veg and flowering.

pack them in close and the plants don't care-
    light intensity is everything.

CFLs work, but if you are looking for the best use HIDs. CFLs make sense for small quantity grows in small chambers. If 1.5 - 2 ounces of bud per plant is good for you, then CFLs will make you happy.

It is a bit more work too. As Hippie pointed out, you need to keep the plants as close to the CFLs as possible. So you need to adjust the spacing every couple of days, that or the plants need a training adjustment.
