    Hippie's Paper Bag Cure Question

I used this method to cure what ended up being 1.6oz of dry bud with good results. However the result for 0.8oz quantities didn't work so good. I suspect that the quantity was too small to let the fermentation do its magic and it dried too fast.

Question: How big around should the load be at a minimum to work? Would it be better to keep the roll short so that the bud is collected into a short, fat cylindrical shape rather than a long, thinner shape? Or is there something else more important going on that I didn't understand?

I am sorry if this is a dumb question, so many of you do not deal with small ass grows like me. Thanks for your thoughts.

I would imagine that inspecting the bud as little as possible would also help. How many days could go by between inspections without risking mold or some other rot? The humidity around here is usually not very high. I am thinking that it might be possible to just let it cure without airing it out. But I think I would like to hear if that is a bad idea first.

Thanks for the help. Compressing tightly does make a lot of sense.

For small amounts , put it in a canning jar , take off the removable lid and replace it with a piece of paper bag (cut a bit larger ) , and screw the ring back down over it . Works like a charm !

A pint or quart size? How full? How long does it usually take? Thanks for the idea.

i hang freshly harvested plants in a cool dark room with a fan blowing around the room, but not on the buds. when you bend the stem and it snaps, it's ready for jars. this can take a week or more or less. open a loosely filled mason jar 3x a day for 15 minutes. it takes a few weeks but it is smoothhhh.

Either will work , half-pint is prolly best . How long ? Depends on how dry the air is and how damp the bud is . How full ? Half-pint can be filled all the way . Pints are probably best at half full ( otherwise the stuff on the bottom won't get enough air ) . Go by touch . Check it a couple times a day . You want to keep a little "spring" in the buds.........don't totally crisp them out .
Anything will work . Small paper bags , tupperware with holes it it , jars with loose lids , etc . . The whole idea is to slow the final drying way down , after the initial air-drying of the bulk of the moisture . A good , slow cure will give you a tasty , smooth smoke .......not to mention improved potency .

imo paper is better than glass because
a] it 'breathes', lets some air in
    b] it wicks moisture away
both help prevent any rot/mold from attacking the bud
and allow a slow dry with consistently good results.
one can even wet the bag a bit to prolong the cure.

Lots of ways to manage the cure. I will need to practice up. Thanks.

I have been trying storing cured weed in good sealing jars filled with propane. I put weed in ziplock bags, squeeze the air out, put the torch tip in the bag and fill with propane. The I squeeze the gas out and seal the bag. Then I put bags in a jar and fill that with propane. I hope I can keep a quantity long enough to see how well it works.

Awesome picture Hip, I don't think putting that quantity under propane would be good idea.

This cure works, REALLY well. Patience is tantamount to receiving a smooth smoke. Let it cure reeeeeal slow and you'll thank yourself for waiting.

Is the propane just to displace the o2 or what?

    Yes, to displace O2.

I know I am handling it too much because it dries out too fast. But I am only checking it once a day. I am afraid of mold too, so I haven't tried spacing out inspections. So I will give tighter rollups a try and maybe a misting with a future cure.
