    super-soil-less mix and instructions

    Cap's Super-Soiless Mix

this is a highly porous, fast draining, quick drying soil mix depending on how much casting you use. if you prefer a heavier kinda mix then use more castings. its tough to use too much worm coco is good for bulkin up too, or even peat but make sure to lime your peat, as it is slightly acidic the FF peace of mind is the important part. if you want you can use the bulb food or the fruit and flower food, either will work for starts and flowerin stuff.. if u have heavy feeding veg plants buy a box of the veg formula peace of mind for that stuff. i get by with just the fruit food tho

heres the mix to make up a good lights worth of dirt or more..

1 bale promix BX or HP or good sunshine mix

10 gallons of fine-screened peat (make sure to lime it! id use about a half cup of hydrated lime for this amount...you can even skip the peat if you want i happen to usually have some around tho heh)

10-15 gallons of hydro-grade coco preferably bagged, if bricked use 3-6 bricks

30-60 lbs of worm castings (more for veg' stuff)

1 Large Bag Hydrofarm perlite (or any Chunky/Coarse perlite)

    10-20 liters of hydroton

and finally, the super special secret ingredient that brings it all together
1 tablespoon per gallon of soil to be made up of Peace Of Mind Fruit and Flower formula dry food with Mycorhizae, from Fox Farm.

for this write up is not solid--u can substitute to some degree, but the mix listed is sure-fire to be killer for ya i like to add jersey greensand, but i have been usin potassium silicate in liquid form instead (silica blast from american agritech/botanicare) and its working ok..but nothin beats greensand
as far as nitrogen goes, cuz the peace of mind is high in P and K so all u need is to boost the N thats in the castings a tad if yer in veg... u can do this with rodent/rabbit shit (dont collect it yerself, buy it clean from a nursery because rodent shit carries terrible diseases that are transferred through the skin. scary stuff!) it doesnt burn yer plants tho chicken shit will burn yer plants, as will some guanos, and bone and blood meal are not a good look. i stay away from all that. the non burning things like alfalfa meal and the like are great. check out Garden Supply - Planet Natural for some great dry ingredients

usually what i do is make up 1 huge bale-sized contractor bag full per 3 or 4 (7) gallon cans when workin inside and a wheelbarrow-full when outside or in the greenhouse. i usually just approximate/eyeball everything and its always different depending on whats around available to me at the time. this most recent cycle was done in the wide mouthed pots which i believe to be superior to tall narrow pots in that the root-zone recieves more O2 due to the exposed surface area (soil surface). these cans are 15" wide from a greenhouse supply company. use google to find these types of places if you want good deals and industrial grade grow supplies many will sell to the public and the pots i got happened to even be on closeout! they have open-box and floor-specials sometimes if you give them a call. pm me if you want a good one CF.

    some tips:

~ TILL YOUR MIX EXTREMELY WELL TO DISTRIBUTE THE DRY AMENDMENTS EVENLY!

    ~ water gently! and evenly

~ test the waters before heavily feeding. depending on the ferts you add you could end up burning plants that arent accustomed to the heavy levels of fertilizer.

~ use those huge contractor clean-up bags made of ultra thick black plastic for mixing your dirt if you want a dust-free way to do like 20-30 gallons of mix at a time or so. you just add all the ingredients to the bag and then roll it around on the ground, shake it, toss it around, carefully knead it throught the outside with your hands to break up any large clumps, but if you roll it around long enough no hand work is needed. however, i usually use my hands to till through it once i am ready to fill containers with it, and usuaklly if i roll/mix the bag for at least 5 or 10 minutes straight it needs no additional mixing .
