    Red face LED Grow Lights...

I have been so curious about the LED light panel craze so i bought me one finially
I wonder what kind of boost a 225 LED red spectrum panel will do during flowering as a addition to my CFL lighting?
I think it might work as well as a HPS system
Ck this link out fellas and tell me what you think

    I dunno alouna,

I was always told that LED's were made to be seen and not made to see with. Meaning that you can see them really well but they dont 'light up' much. Kinda like tractor and trailers. They use em in the tail lens but never for the head lights.

But what the hell do I know...lol

LED tech has improved dramatically in the last years. If it's not ready for prime time yet, it will be soon. In other words- try it and let us all know!

    yeah...lol

You can have an LED flash light but make sure you have a regular one in case you need to see where you're walking...lol

That's what I mean- I was checking out the LED flashlights just the other day. For the size, they seemed adequate... maybe I'll buy one and check it out in a real situation.

You dont know much because you havent read about them yet Coyote
LED lights can pinpoint the exact spectrums for optimum plant growth
They are not gonna replace a high calibre 1000 watt hps setup anytime soon but people used to think the world was flat in the dark ages

like I said, I dont know about growing with em.
But you dont see them in head lights do ya?

BTW, would you expect a business that sells them to tell you anything different?

A side by side comparison would be outstanding. Have you guys ever seen a comparison.

I know they are great for my reef so that does tell me something.

Looks like google is my friend..lol
More usable light from those dudes.

I was thinking about the same things last month and ended up with a 2X4 HO t5 setup instead.
I'll be curious to see how you feel this helps your next grow. Every little bit helps . .
And for that price it can't hurt.

I dont care about car headlights dude
With LED`s it is all about the spectrum that a plant needs

LEDs may be super bright but have an aweful narrow wavelength spectrum (this is why they can be bright but still not offer much usable light). Can the plants survive well on this narrow of a spectrum?

the real question is, do your plants care much about the wavelength? some say that intensity is much more important than spectrum.

Plants reflect the green part of the visible spectrum, and absorb the rest. However, how much of that spectrum is actually used by clorophyll for photosythesis? I don't know.

(It would be neat if you could grow using only infra-red light....)

(oh, spectrum = range of colors, wavelength = particular color within a spectrum)

they are bright but i dont think they give much light penetration. there is a side by side growlog of led and hps and the led grew well but the nodes were pretty spaced apart and not tight like the HID

I dont know much about what lights would be good for your grow op, but I did read what you were all talking about with wavelengths and LEDs.

LEDs operate because of the photoelectric effect introduced by Einstein. When electrons from a metal are excited they have a tendency to try to sink back to their previous energy state. The only way for them to release this pent up energy is through the release of photons, which have momentum but no mass. An LED generates light by having a potential energy well. The LED itself is essentially an area of metal alloy between another alloy where electrons can enjoy the liberty of releasing photons more easily without traveling to other areas of the device in their excited state. They were created by Nick Holonyak at UIUC in 1962.

what this means in laymens terms is that that an LED is capable of releasing a steady stream of photons, when held at steady-state, at approximately the same wavelength and frequency.

this means that if you found the ideal wavelength for vegetative growth, you would be able to create an LED to rock that shit to its full potential. Same goes for flowering. If a plant needs more than one wavelength for ideal growth you could supplement those wavelengths with more specially tailored LEDs to compensate for the wavelengths you need.

I took this off of another site:
"Plants (and mj in particular) respond to different wavelengths of light differently. The optimum wavelengths for chlorophyll production and photosynthesis occur in the red and blue ranges, so any light in the middle of the visible spectrum is good for vegetative growth. In short, ordinary fluorescent lights work great; most incandescents are crappy because they put out too much infared (wastes energy, produces heat) and not enough blue."

If you go here: Color - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and scroll down one or so pages you can see a good diagram with the wavelengths needed for certain colors. If you need a lot of blue and red for example you will want LEDs that output a wavelength of around 670nm for red and 475nm for blue. this is probably not ideal but it's a rough idea.

Keep in mind that as wavelengths get shorter the LEDs will be more expensive. Blu-ray LEDs found in the PS3 for example is way newer than red LEDs. You might find that to fully supply your plant with the full spectrum needed you could buy another form of light for cheaper. The upside of LEDs is that the power (volts*amps=watts) required to turn on and run them is incredibly cheap.

I hope this helped, electricity is my specialty.

oh no, I didnt think you were ol buddy
I was unaware that plants use curtain spectrums form the LED's. I knew they played off of curtain colors but I didn't know about the spectrum of LED's. I thought that plants used lumens alone.
Im learn something new everyday. lol thats what's it all about.

btw, Im 110% passive..lol ask Merm

Here's some interesing info. The product isn't cheap, but the intro to LED based growing, plant LED technology etc. are interesting. The daylight sensitivity spectrum charts address what wavelengths are needed for plant growth.

    Cool running, efficient, long lasting.

And, the price is almost certain to come down.
