![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Micro grow bulbs of the future LED Light Bulbs
I saw this article and I thought it was definitely interesting. It will be a few years before the price justifies using these bulbs. However, when they come out with more powerful bulbs, 150, 200,300 watt equivalent and lower the price ALOT it will be amazing. 7.5 watts @ 60 watts equiv. However, at $100 a bulb atm it is definitely not convenient right now. CFL's were pretty expensive when they first came out aswell. Just thought Id post it and see what yall thought. pce http://green.yahoo.com/blog/ecogeek/...estic-led.html

My understanding is that Leds can emit purer colors than flouros or hid lights can, and since red and blue are the colors plants most use for photosynthesis, it would seem that you might be able to supercharge plant growth by using leds to selectively deliver only that part of the color spectrum that a plant needs. But plants evolved under the sun, and it may be that a plant needs a broad spectrum of light like the sun's to be healthy. Leds might be really good for growing if plants could thrive under a color spectrum-optimized light, but I don't think that's been shown to be true yet. I think that, at least for now, the ratio of plant growth to watt attainable with HID and fluoros is far superior to that of leds.
