Light, soil & CO2?

I'm planning a grow and I have some, ok, lots of questions. I was going to use

cfls, probably around 250W worth. My friends are telling me to get at least a

400W HPS, anything smaller they say, just isn't worth it. i think maybe a

250W HPS max would be OK, just cuz I'm worried about my electric bill(its a

really small apt.) They are also trying to convince me to go hydro. Mind you

these friends have never grown green before. I think they just want me to

have a big harvest, so I'll be more generous with it. I just want to have

enough for my use. So, what kind of yield can i expect using 250W worth of

cfl and regular soil? I'm thinking 2 ounces at least, which is fine. i know

there are lots of factors that contribute to yield. Does going hydro really

increase yield a lot? Is there any point to worrying about CO2 in such a

small grow? Thanks!

how many plants do you plan on having with HPS and MH 40 watts per square foot is effeicent enough to say, correct me if im wrong, but i have a grow now going 5 plants and and been using cfls the whole ways, i got nice lil buds also got a brand new 250 watt hps bulb and ballast ill sell ya pm me if interested

co2 is a huge expense that the intermediate grower just doesnt need at first... good luck!

dont do hydro. definitely as a beginner.
dont add CO2, not worth it unless your running 1000w+.

I agree with whoever said to you that anything
under 400 isnt worth it. Get a 400
its like 20 bucks a month added to yer bill.

Soil, definitely. It's much more forgiving, and imo the results taste a lot better.
I've never tried it CO2, but for a small grow I doubt it would make a lot of difference. Just have good air flow around the plants. Fans do make a big difference.
I sometimes wish I'd gotten a 400W, but my little 250 works pretty well in the 2 ft. x 4 ft. grow cab. With SOG or SCROG you should get a few oz's. per grow.
