I was over in chat the other day and we got to talking about grass and what not. Anyway, I've been growing for 20 years now. It's the same strain dad showed me on. I can grow green well enough for sure but I have zero knowledge on strains or even if my green is sativa or indica. It has served its purpose sure enough and I will never not grow it. However, I would like to know what Im growing so I was thinking you folks could point me in the right direction for a decent strain. Im sure this is gonna be like asking what cubes are the best (they're all good) but I figured it's worth talking about.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Humm, yeah that's a tough one. I've got my strain and I also don't know what it is. I've brought it around and most people think it's some sort of diesel strain, but this was started before that strain hit the market. The best I can do is to look at the growing leaf and see how thick or thin the leaves are. Right now I'm thinking 80% sativa. Any pics of yours?

most likely a indica/sativa hybrid as most are these days read this, it is a great article on history and origins of species http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4721.html basic id info http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabi...is_info6.shtml tons more general all around information here http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis.shtml also take a look at a seed catalog such as http://www.cannabis-seeds.co.uk/seed...feminized.html * and you find out that there are basically a ton of different strains (*I am not recommending this seed distributor, just an example I'm sure there are members here who can vouch for reliable sources however) |

You like a thoughtful, philosophical stone or do you like to be stuck to the couch and go to sleep? Maybe one of each for different times of the day? Have to know more about what you like to try to pick a good strain for you. And then there are the many phenos each strainhave in them. That is why when you find one you really like you try to keep the clones going and going. It sounds like you have that part down if you have been growing that strain for as long as you have.

I have been propagating from seed all this time. I've cloned a few from time to time just to make sure I knew how but seed is the norm. Definitely don't like couch lock. Some good reading there, thanks for that. I'll post some pics and show you what I've got. One thing I wanted to mention about dad. He's 90 years old. He grew up during the depression and went without. He was'nt a 60's lsd trippin, peace symbol wearin' protesting hippie. He didnt have time for that, he had 7 kids to take care of. He did what he had to do to make sure we had food and clothing. He showed me how to grow grass so I had the tools to provide for my family if I things go south. I never have had to take that step and hope I never do. I just wanted to say that about him. I didnt want anyone to get the wrong impression of him. He's a hard man.

Ok, I read through the info. Sounds like I may have a hybrid of primarily indica properties. I save off the pollen of males and use it to pollinate when I need seed. I have very little knowledge of strains and so on so you will have to forgive my ignorance. I'm continuing the hybrid process and most certainly don't have what I started with. What is the high like from indica and sativa? The reason I ask is over the years, sometimes I'm as lazy as fuck and other times I find myself re-organizing my basement or moping the kitchen floor for the wife.

Indica-heavy strains are the strains more apt to give you the couch-lock feeling -- they're a heavy, physical/full body high. In contrast, sativa-heavy strains give a powerful cerebral high, which means you're going to feel very productive and want to get up and go. So I'm guessing for your new grows you want something sativa-heavy. A few good sativa strains are as follows: Kali Mist Kiwi Green (pure sativa) Jack Herrer various "Haze"s |

check out "ace seeds" for really fine sativas. they have their version of "haze" called "oldtimer's haze" which uses genetics from all over the world and is supposed to be a very fine smoke. although sativas like these need a lot more time to flower and may be more suitable for outdoor grows, they can be done indoors very well.

oldtimers haze is an amazing strain. Quote:
![]() I dunno that I'd recommend it as an indoor strain though. 100% sativa isn't the best option for doing an indoor grow. NOT to say it can't be done... because it most certainly can.

Indoor or Outdoor? Are you interested in a heavy yeilder? You want big dense buds or light fluffsters? What kinda stone do you like? You want a stinky bud or one w/ not so much smell while growing? My advice would be to get a couple packs of seeds from very different parts of the spectrum (i.e maybe an 80% sat/20% indica....and an 80% indica 20% sativa) Find out whatcha like ya know? Joey weed is gaining alot of ground w/ folks I know. Alotta cool strains. Can get pretty good genetics for very cheap. Honest and reliable from everybody i've talked to. I have yet to order from him, but I'm looking @ getting the C99xAk47 and also C99xNL Plus for as cheap as ya get em, you can get a few different varieties and try em out ![]() P.S Cool about your paw teachin you how to grow. Sounds like quite the man.

Hi Oblivian and group... I started smoking in the late 60s when sativas were the only thing available. It was some sweet smoke and all grow outdoors. Then late 70s with Afghan hitting the scene...things changed. Now it seems there are so many poly-hybrids out there, it just gets confusing. I try to stick with either an ibl (inbred line-true breeding) or a landrace (original never been hybridized). Something like the weed you've been growing where when you make seeds...they produce plants just like the parent plants. I've had really good luck with a Canadian seed seller High Grade Seeds http://www.highgrade-seeds.com/ I've grown out the Black Pearl and it's a very vigorous growing sativa dominant strain. Good yielding and a strong high. They also have several new offerings...Kona Gold and Swazi Red which both sound very nice. I've also used Reeferman genetics but they're harder to find. Peak Seeds BC is a discount seed seller that has some very nice strains. I just don't see any reason to spend $200 for 10 seeds. That's madness. I've sucessfully purchased from all those that I mentioned. Secure and reliable shipping and fair prices. I'd avoid Sannie strains and AnsterdamMarijuanaSeeds. Bad juju there... Peace, Dee

If you want to read about different strains I'd recommend picking up a copy of the cannabible by jason king... it's beautiful book with full colour photos of hundreds of strains with descriptions of the highs, taste, and aroma... I emailed the dude who wrote it and he said his favourite for the last few years has been Cheese. Doesn't really sound good (as in smoking cheese lol), but he says it's exquisite smoke. I think you can order it from big buddha seeds. Shadowlord is growing thier blue-cheese, and I eagerly await his report on the quality ![]() I'm partial to blueberry and romulan myself... but have been looking for a change lately as well. Anything from DJ short is supposed to be excellent. I'd like to try "flo" as it's supposed to be a super motivational high which is always nice. |

I haven't had the Cheese yet but The Blue Cheese is quite nice so far. It hasn't had time to get much cure on it yet but it is already my favorite. It has a light blueberry smell to it not the strong blueberry smell one usually gets in the BB influenced strains. Unfortunately, I was only able to get one clone to take from them so I will have only a little of it next harvest. But I will clone the hell out of this last remaining one as the Blue Cheese is a keeper so far. I have only grown for a few years and usually keep strains around until I get offered new cuts of stuff and have to let something go but so far the Blue Cheese is not bad at all. Grows very Kushlike buds that are nice and sticky and it has a hashy flavor to it but it is easy to smoke. Not a lungbuster strain.

The Cheese is an elite clone, that a UK fellow found after starting 10,000 skunk #1 seeds. In all the phenotype variations, he found 1, that he labeled the cheese, that has a creamy smell and taste (one of the best flavors SWIM has ever had), much sweeter and greener than any skunk flavors, with slightly leafy buds, but good structure for a bush, and very greasy type resin. It is still pretty frosty, though, and is a good middle of the road high. It can be smoked throughout the day without really causing couchlock, but isn't terribly cerebral. It's not the most potent, but the smell and taste make up for that. It's definitely a good addition to any garden.

My Advice is to join a weed forum and hang out for a while... make some friends.. I never buy seeds... Too many breeders out there wanting their creations grown out.. And I am all too happy to oblidge.. ![]() I let the pros spend the loot on Genes, then I enjoy the crosses, all for the price of a detailed Growlog (which I love to do anyway) Win Win really. Just remember that Patience is a virtue and variety is the spice of life. :0)
