Thanks for posting that here Alan this section > Psilocybe subaeruginascens, auweia 01/26/08 collection is from the very same patch as documented in MJ's SEM thread. At the time, there were only two specimens and I had no idea if those two were the only ones as this was a new find. It should be the same species as the one I found in Richmond two years ago, one of them being in the SEM that I sent to MJ So what I mean is that your microscopy should come close to one of those two SEM. I notice that the spores look like lemons, as opposed to cyans and friscosas, which are more circular and very similar to each other Psilocybe subaeruginascens, auweia 01/26/08 collection http://forums.mycotopia.net/wild-mus...ofriscosa.html (SEM of Ps. cyanescens and Ps. cyanofriscosa) I can show you the actual mushroom this came from ![]() That was back in January. About a month later, the rest of the patch came up. This is what they really look like ![]() as far as anybody knows, this is only been seen 4 times around the San Francisco Bay Area, with the first being in 2004, in GGP |

Psilocybe villarrealiae spores, 1000x, Prankster239 collection ![]() ![]() Psilocybe caerulescens spores, 1000x, Prankster239 collection ![]() ![]() ![]() The biggest difference I see in the spores between the two species is the color. It is noticeable both looking at the print and through the the microscope. The P. villarrealiae spores are a reddish brown while the P. caerulescens spores are closer to a charcoal gray, just barely if at all brown. After looking at the P. villarrealiae spores in the microscope for awhile, the P. caerulescens looked like chunks of charcoal by comparison. |
