Low temp has been 36*F with rh of 58% high temp has been 71*F with rh of 90% The azures are currently cooling in the 'fridge to see if the temp drop induces pinning. The ovoids are maturing much more rapidly than I expected. | |

![]() | Thank you sir. And no kidding.....when did I first ask you for woodlover advice? Anyhow, It's been awhile with a great number of failures leading up to now. Looks like the projects including grass are faring better than the simply cased projects. I have two hypotheses: One is that, since the grass experiments can simply be "doused" with a sprayer while watering, The grass regulates aeration and humidity levels perfectly at the casing layer level. This idea is partially Waylitjim's and due to the high number of mushrooms I've observed in lawns and other grassy areas after a rain. Consequently, I am using captured rain water to mist all projects. Second is that, I've been researching the relationship between fungi, bacteria, and plant life. A healthy microbial network promotes balance. The healthy microbes destroy invading and potentially threatening competitors - or at least regulate them to the benefit of the network. If anyone is interested, I might cover the theory more in-depth in another thread but my experiemts are proving to be quite resistant to contamination since I've begun incorporating these "new" ideas learned from experiemtation. Here are some update photos: |

Here ya go! The project with the best growth is planted with grass. It should be noted that there are four tubs in all containing two distinct substrains I isolated from multi-spore through a series of many, many, transfers. Each substrain was treated equally ~ one tub was given a casing layer and the other, a casing layer w/ grass. One substrain, while a great performer on agar, is not such a robust producer. This is consistent in either tub but they appear quite poor in the 'casing only' tub. The other, is very robust with prolific fruitbody formation. The caps have opened and veils tearing. While the 'casing only' tub is very robust, the fruitbodies are considerably smaller. It should also be noted that I sowed grass on the two 'casing only' projects to see if future flushes support my ideas. |

awesome setup never thought about grass helping with casing but it makes sense. hey myc would you be willing to let a print go? im currently working on cyans and would LOVE azures! And one more thing you mentioned plant bacterial and fungal life what about introducing earth worms to help areate the soil? or would the just do dmg to the myc? *self admitted noob*

I am quite happy with the overall results of this experiment. It gives me great hope for future experiments with other species. I simply cannot stop marveling at the simple beauty and contrast between fungus and plant. Some fungal clusters had completely surrounded the neighboring blades of grass. The grass didn't seem to be suffering from this arrangement at all. One drawback to this type of effort is that it is a very tedious process separating the grass from harvested fruitbodies. The casing layer is also completely destroyed by this process causing me to wonder if future flushes are going to occor or not. |

Simply amazing. You've got me wanting to poke around in my Ovids bed outside , but alas 6 inches of fresh snow. To say this thread is inspiring is an understatement. You rock Myc. Thanks for sharing.

wow, thats just breathtaking... you are pretty damn scientific with it also, this has been great to watch, let us know on yields and keep up the good workps- any judgment on potency on ovos compared to azures or other woodlovers? |

I would like to thank you all for the views and the kind comments. Currently working on subsequent flushes to see if anything happens. The myc is recovering nicely and future flushes look like a real possiblility. Anyone wanting prints please keep an eye out for the April aution to benefit 'Topia. Many of the prints are between 1 1/4" - 2" in diameter, are quite dark, and as clean as can be since they were raised in "outdoor" conditions. Handeled with gloves, printed in glovebox, packaged in a laminar flow airstream. As for the potency of this strain....... ![]() Certainly not the strongest I've ever done but definately a voyage worth taking!! Easily twice as strong as the average cubensis strain. Very smooth, mellow, clean, bright, sparkly, Induces uncontrolable giggles and laughter Lasts about 8 hours. Taste is not as foul as other Psilocybian species (according to some female psychonauts) - Blend fruitbodies up with some fruit juice coctail and you can't even taste them - just like drinking blue tropical punch! Voyage was way different than that of any species that has been tested. Regarding yields........let's just say that there were plenty to go around for everyone who wanted some. ![]() Thanks for looking and will keep updating progress as it occurs. |

The original idea for these cultures was to use them as "starting blocks" for outdoor beds. So in the interest of completing the tek, I include these final photos An outdoor bed was prepared by selecting a location which has a year-around underground water supply. The colony will have an adequate supply of moisture during any dry spells. A shallow depression was dug into the earth about 6 inches deep. The fully colonized tubs were inverted into this depression And the solid 'cakes' of mycelium were birthed into their new home. The blocks were covered with their favorite foodsource and left to live out their lives - and with a little luck......prosper and multiply. Maybe we'll be adding a new Psilocybe to "Mushrooms of Colorado" soon.

What did you find was the best colonization temps for the ovoids? I have several cardboard clones and they are at around 70F, I was wondering if this was right or not... Bump from the grave

They colonize fine in the 70*s F But I have a neglected stem-butt cloning project that is colonizing just fine in the refrigerator. Mid to low 70*s are ideal IME.
