although i have pretty much everything packed up for the all too busy summer i do have one small experiment in the works. these were started back in november of last year. i wasn't even going to post this small project, but once again mushrooms amaze me and i had to share. pf style millet cake pretty much smashed into shredded straw lol. left overs from a larger casing that gave up the ghost a few months back at four flushes. i had this egg shaped fc that came with one of those cheap tomato starter kits and figured what hell. may look pretty cool. well, i never got that chamber full of mushrooms that i had visions of. mostly flushes only a little better than this. some big ones on the first though.. i'm only posting this one because it's the seventh flush! and it's ten months old and i think there's more left in it if i dunk the sub. all the spawning work was done outdoors and it was a total wreckless test to see just how tough this long lived mushroom really is. it's been total neglect really. right down to a lack of fanning as you can see in the strangely shaped caps. i remember captain future mentioning something about this in his thread and it got me thinking. this fruiting chamber only has seven or so small holes in the top. something i would have fixed normally, but i can use busy as an excuse and say i meant to do that. anyways, the fruits are certainly affected and refuse to drop spores at these co2 levels. however, the number of flushes is currently increased by 75%. may have to try this on a larger scale next time around. with a little more attention i bet one could have a producing colony going for close to a year. maybe longer. and better fruits ![]() damn. i'm supposed to be power washing my deck ![]() much love

heh. maybe the chickens are onto something. fresh eggs can lay around for up to six weeks! lol thanks everyone. ![]() Brakiska - i was reading a trip report today from blue belle and corky. they had mentioned the wizzing noise. well.. these make thunder. ominous continuous thunder. these are the closest thing to azures i have ever tried. only much different. first time i tried them i was stuck on the floor for a few hours. 1 1/2 dry gram dose that hit in four minutes after slamming down the tea cup. it has almost cactus like aspects at times. even spent a moment stripped to nothingness and gasping. heh. won't forget that anytime soon.

you are all so great ![]() wish i could take the credit, but honestly, this may be the least amount of work i have ever put into any grow. i'll probably harvest in the next day or two. got a lot of side pinning going on now near the bottom and the sub seems to have shrunk quite a bit as well. if it holds together i'll give it a dunk. if it breaks it goes into more straw after dunking. thanks so much again ![]()

more side pinning than i thought lol. today's harvest. the sub is still pretty solid and seems to be showing even more primordial activity near the bottom. probably mostly due to the moisture, but i think these things actually enjoy the co2 to an extent as well. they do very well invitro. i was going to flip it for the next flush if there is one, but now i don't know. seem to be getting more from the invitro side. dunking now. straight well water no bleach. come on #8 ![]()

no. they exhibit some of the same symptoms as cubensis when co2 levels are too high. here's some pics of more normal fruiting patterns http://forums.mycotopia.net/members/...emperviva.html aah yes the twisted one on the left caught my as well! a result of crashing into the top of the dome and turning back down. fruits in a better environment are nicely solid and snap easily. these are more like rope lol. thanks again!

![]() | What do you make of this?
Here is a culture I've been messing with for some time now. MS to agar agar to grain grain project contaminated but sections of the jar were very robust via glovebox, I transferred some of these sections and selected out the mycelium over several transfers the plates photographed represent a really robust culture but notice the accompanying contaminant - the contam always turns darkens the nutitional yeast particles in a "leading wave" to a reddish color but the mycelium comes roaring after it. it's so robust, the mycelium is jumping the dividers in the plate I have a morel culture that seems to have a "pet" contaminant or are they associates?? Like agaricus - won't fruit from sterilized media Gonna put it on some grass seed and see what happens.

i remember a contaminated jar that fruited invitro lol, http://forums.mycotopia.net/exotic-m...emperviva.html (Psilocybe hoogshagenii var. convexa (P. semperviva)) and workman had a dish also http://forums.mycotopia.net/attachme...-2-reduced.jpg it will pretty much over run anything. i think i've only lost one casing to a late bloom of trich, but that was on the fourth flush i think. a rather large casing as well. it seems to hold off contams better with the smaller grows.. hmm. maybe it's just me. many good vibes to you my friend! can't wait to see your experiment!

harvesting a very neglected flush #8 now. ![]() things are looking a bit more ragged after the dunk. there are a few spots just above the invitro mushroom where the straw has blackened and the myc has withdrawn. no doubt some sort of microbe at work. doesn't seem to be getting any larger though. the sub is still very wet. a little too much imo. i think this time i will flip the entire thing over and try to get some of that excess water to even out a little. a small tub may be required at this point. maybe some lightly damp verm in the bottom of the egg.. not sure yet. the mycelium is fuzzing back up for more activity though. it's tempting to break it up and put it in fresh straw, but i think i would be inviting worse contams. maybe some small pieces on cardboard or agar or something.. just to keep this particular strain of myc alive. it hasn't been the most heavy fruiter under these horrible conditions and i would really like to see what it could do in more optimal conditions. come on # 9 !!!

thanks.. but this egg chamber has been sitting amongst a bunch of house plants. they get dusty pretty fast and i simply remove the lid and mist everything at the same time once a day lol. semper' gets all the credit here. honestly i figured the trich would have gotten it a long time ago. especially with the lack of fae. the casing mix may have something to do with it as well. about 40-50% cactus mix and 25-30% verm and the same figure for the peat moss. lots of calcium as well. lasts much longer than just peat and verm alone.thanks again!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | a few very light prints from the first few flushes.. when it was getting a little more love. maybe i should try again. they are very hard to see on the fruits at times.. but i do get right in there with a maginifier and light lol. 'ette's got us at flush nine already so i guess it's gotta happen now. ![]() always good to smile.

TCO it is so like you to squeeze a poor little project like that. Just too damn cheap to buy some more substrate, eh? Pretty cool, man. Pretty damned cool!

heh. it snuck one in on me. not sure if it's a late 8th or the 9th. i'm guessing 9th. the whole 9th. had some earlier grows do the same in late flushes. either way it was in a hurry. been about a week since i checked it last. this one is aweful big lol. maybe a good side project clone.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hehe at first i thought it was a reflection of light on the plastic dome as i walked by. it was hours later when i saw that cap pattern out of the corner of my eye. it's as if it knew right where the dome was too. doesn't seem to have ever made any contact with it at all.

however, my friend, you now have me curious. semper does respond to damaged areas in the sub. it always pins where fruits have been removed prior. especially invitro. man.. dare i recase it? it's gotta be near the end. hmmm... thanks so much again everyone!!!

![]() made a quick attempt at a clone (check out the bluing!) and even managed to get a couple dishes of p.samuiensis (thanks captain future) and a couple p. villarrealiae (thanks cactu) spores going. pretty fast work in a cluttered clean room. ![]() hopefully it pays off.

Damn that is some serious bluing! You said these were the strongest mushrooms you have ever eaten? Have you ever attempted those other two species?

![]() mea. took off real fast, but the sides of the dish had contam issues. very sloppy work on my part. took a clean sample before things got too bad and transfered to sterile water. had enough material to make one 10cc syringe. after noc'ing 4 jars i have a little left to put into lc or back onto cleaner agar. i am very impressed by the speed and recovery during these phases.
