Ms. Banzai makes a wedding cake...

It's a cake growlog...

Best friend of 20 odd years getting married, Ms. Banzai does her thang and cranks out a monster wedding cake. We are in another state far from her kitchen, so I'm doing all the support work to keep her sane and able to get it done in a day. More pics later, but these are today's highlights...

First she makes one rose:

Then a bunch of roses:

Then a bunch of wild flowers:

Then she assembles all of these:

Then the top tier is almost done:

Last touches on today's construction of the cake:

Lots more details to add tomorrow. Icing and piping and assembly of the levels. This cake will feed 130 people! Wedding should be a blast'o'rama...

If ya dig it, I've got about a billion more pics! Anyway, back to the motel to get a shower and go out to dinner with the cool folks! Have a good evening, Mycotopia!

I shall pass on your praise, good sirs. Ms. Banzai will be quite psyched. She is always a mass of confidence issues and second thoughts during the actual production phase when things are finally coming together. "Yeah - it looks like total crap. Let's just set fire to it, what do you say?" Her cakes are monsters, though. I'll dig up some other pics if you guys wanna see 'em when I get back to the house.

Here are a couple of other closeups. I got a better lamp to "warm" them with and got her luster overpaint to really pop:

This cake is really smokin'. It is going to look totally cool at the wedding. Also, though it's snow white on the outside, it's a dark chocolate coffee cake on the inside. The layers are split with a rasberry mousse and espresso. All that white fondant should look totally bitchin' with the almost black cake showing from underneath (after it's cut). Bride and groom are both big coffee heads, so...vive la caffeine!!!

Out doing my morning walk for smoke and coffee this morning and I discovered a quaint little store just down the street from our motel that I simply must share with you Mycotopiates:

The bibles and assorted Christian items in the front window weren't the best part. The bad ceramic Jesuses on the "half priced" table out front weren't the best part. The concrete nativity scene "Perfect for Easter" (???) wasn't even the best part. The best part is that our local Family Christian Store is located on:

Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor? Not me, boy...

The wedding was a total blast. Absolutely beautiful weather and loving sentiments all the way around. To top it all off, I got to watch my buddy's daughter call his new wife, "Mom" for the first time. My buddy choose VERY VERY poorly on his first marriage at bat. He did much better this time. His new chick is the absolute shiznat (and friggin' hot, to boot - being a yoga instructor makes for a NICE body).

Sweetie's cake was a total smash, as well. It tasted even better than it looked! Raspberry moose and chocolate/coffee...yummy...

They are on their honeymoon now, in a little cabin high up in the smokies, far away from the things of man. Can anybody guess what I brought them as a wedding present? THANK YOU MYCOTOPIA!!! A bag of encapsulated shroomies beats the hell out of yet another serving dish!

Proving once again that my buddy is psychic, this is the groomsman's gift he gave me:

It is a totally cool little blown glass shroom container (note the cork in it's stipe). The container is slightly taller than a Bic lighter. Too bad it's not a little bigger - we know what I'd be storing in there!!!

And one more cool road sign we passed:
