Foster - THAT is why I started this thread.

Lets folks share a little more than they might otherwise be comfortable/able to share without danger of giving anything away.

    Great post, man...

thanks BB, Great Thread! Its cool to be able to get inside the heads of topiates and find out a little more about their motives and motivation. Its strange I'm so used to being called by my topia handle, I'd probably answer to it if I heard someone call it out in a crowd. lol.

I was trying to come up with something funny to show off my quirky sense of humor. I had recently seen the clip form Pulp Fiction where Samuel L. Jackson is talking about tasty burgers washed down with a tasty beverage. As i was pondering my handle during the registration process, the song I like Cold Beverages by G Love and Special Sauce started playing on my random shuffle and brought that scene to mind so it seemed appropriate.

Always being a great wonderer of the mystery in life I found this to suit me very well. As mysticism means the pursuit of achieving communion, identity with, or conscious awareness of ultimate reality, the Other, divinity, spiritualtruth, or God through direct experience, intuition, or insight. Also one of my favorite quotes is this:

The finest emotion of which we are capable is the mystic emotion. Herein lies the germ of all art and all true science. Anyone to whom this feeling is alien, who is no longer capable of wonderment and lives in a state of fear is a dead man. : Albert Einstein

Thus mysticwonder was born on topia .

Mine came from some sort of trouble when we went to the new forum style. I used to use Got Psily, but I screwed up my password and stuff so it was easier to use the new Real Psily. Both are plays off the milk commercials, but with a more thoughtful twist (I hope/claim) I'm a pretty silly fuck when it comes down to it. How silly? Real Psily. I used to go to shows and make my own T's with stuff like "Psily state of Mind" on them and other shit. Yea I know not that deep, but some people who have had psily do not get psily. Maybe the difference between listening and hearing.

    Why Grok

    Grok -
A made up word by the sci-fi author R.A. Heinlein that made it into Websters dictionary.

It's got two meanings - to drink - and to 'understand something in it's full completeness' ... to become one with it and to know it inside & out.

Why grok though? - well, that book really struck a chord with me when I read it in my teens. That language plays a big part in shaping our perception of reality.

In a nutshell - The main character of the story (Stranger in a Strange Land) Michael Valentine Smith was raised by Martians. The Martian language .. well, it's so involved and evolved, that when thinking in this language, not only is your relation to the universe shaped differently, you can also shape the universe.

More so, it made me think about why we think the way we do, what it's all about, basically it really helped in opening up my mind

Anyways, I thought I'd add the definition from Wiki as well (which is from the book itself):

Grok means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes a part of the observed—to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience. It means almost everything that we mean by religion, philosophy, and science—and it means as little to us (because of our Earthly assumptions) as color means to a blind man.

Still a big R.A.H. fan to this day

Mine is derived from a childhood character I made up.
Well, I was adopted as an infant, been raised in America
by a caucasian family my entire life. First of my parent's
children, then they defied the doctors and had three more,
anyway, I was a pretty dark skinned baby. I have only
been sunburnt once in my lifetime, I don't wear sunscreen,
I tan unusually well. So as a child, aged 13, we were on
vacation in Florida and I noticed some Cuban folks that were
darker than the caucasians and I joked that I must be one of
them. I then embraced my newly found Cuban heritage
when I found a blue stained glass drinking goblet thing and
became, Santiago Domingo Ramirez the third, Cuban king
and explorer. Whenever I drank out of the glass I would mimic
the accent of the Cubans and pretend I was some king or
something. For the rest of my life my friends have always
called me a Cuban and then in Spanish high school class my
given Spanish name was Santiago, which kind of sealed the
deal, so here I am, SantiagoDomingo.

With 4000+ posts, at least a few of 'em are bound to be readable...

Good story, SantiagoDomingo! The name does have a good ring to it.

Reminds me of an ancient Yello song from the 80s.

Here's a chunk of the lyrics:

    We all know
    Domingo of santa clara
Will be born today, tomorrow, and the day after

    Billions of times
'til the end of the universe
Here with a smile on his face
As the rest of our species watches
    The catastrophe

Killer song - early techno tastiness. Here it is on YouTube:
