Originally I went by pfosterbilly. I thought the silent "p" was well suited to the forum here. A Fosterbilly is anyone of the fellas who grew up in the small and very rural area of Fosterxxxxx. A Hillbilly (without the hills) from Fosterxxxx It wasnt long before I started receiving questions meant for the Professor. lol Little did I know he went by not only pf, but billy-you-know-who also. Hip was kind enough to change it to foster for me ![]() With my love for gardening, plants, lost or stray animals, and fungi, I felt it suited me better anyway. foster 1. to promote the growth or development of; further; encourage: to foster new ideas. 2. to bring up, raise, or rear, as a foster child. 3. to care for or cherish. 4. to feed or nourish. |

Foster - THAT is why I started this thread. Lets folks share a little more than they might otherwise be comfortable/able to share without danger of giving anything away. Great post, man...

I was trying to come up with something funny to show off my quirky sense of humor. I had recently seen the clip form Pulp Fiction where Samuel L. Jackson is talking about tasty burgers washed down with a tasty beverage. As i was pondering my handle during the registration process, the song I like Cold Beverages by G Love and Special Sauce started playing on my random shuffle and brought that scene to mind so it seemed appropriate.

Always being a great wonderer of the mystery in life I found this to suit me very well. As mysticism means the pursuit of achieving communion, identity with, or conscious awareness of ultimate reality, the Other, divinity, spiritualtruth, or God through direct experience, intuition, or insight. Also one of my favorite quotes is this: The finest emotion of which we are capable is the mystic emotion. Herein lies the germ of all art and all true science. Anyone to whom this feeling is alien, who is no longer capable of wonderment and lives in a state of fear is a dead man. : Albert Einstein Thus mysticwonder was born on topia . |

Mine came from some sort of trouble when we went to the new forum style. I used to use Got Psily, but I screwed up my password and stuff so it was easier to use the new Real Psily. Both are plays off the milk commercials, but with a more thoughtful twist (I hope/claim) I'm a pretty silly fuck when it comes down to it. How silly? Real Psily. I used to go to shows and make my own T's with stuff like "Psily state of Mind" on them and other shit. Yea I know not that deep, but some people who have had psily do not get psily. Maybe the difference between listening and hearing.

![]() | Why Grok
Grok - A made up word by the sci-fi author R.A. Heinlein that made it into Websters dictionary. It's got two meanings - to drink - and to 'understand something in it's full completeness' ... to become one with it and to know it inside & out. Why grok though? - well, that book really struck a chord with me when I read it in my teens. That language plays a big part in shaping our perception of reality. In a nutshell - The main character of the story (Stranger in a Strange Land) Michael Valentine Smith was raised by Martians. The Martian language .. well, it's so involved and evolved, that when thinking in this language, not only is your relation to the universe shaped differently, you can also shape the universe. More so, it made me think about why we think the way we do, what it's all about, basically it really helped in opening up my mind ![]() Anyways, I thought I'd add the definition from Wiki as well (which is from the book itself): Grok means to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes a part of the observed—to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience. It means almost everything that we mean by religion, philosophy, and science—and it means as little to us (because of our Earthly assumptions) as color means to a blind man. Still a big R.A.H. fan to this day |

Mine is derived from a childhood character I made up. Well, I was adopted as an infant, been raised in America by a caucasian family my entire life. First of my parent's children, then they defied the doctors and had three more, anyway, I was a pretty dark skinned baby. I have only been sunburnt once in my lifetime, I don't wear sunscreen, I tan unusually well. So as a child, aged 13, we were on vacation in Florida and I noticed some Cuban folks that were darker than the caucasians and I joked that I must be one of them. I then embraced my newly found Cuban heritage when I found a blue stained glass drinking goblet thing and became, Santiago Domingo Ramirez the third, Cuban king and explorer. Whenever I drank out of the glass I would mimic the accent of the Cubans and pretend I was some king or something. For the rest of my life my friends have always called me a Cuban and then in Spanish high school class my given Spanish name was Santiago, which kind of sealed the deal, so here I am, SantiagoDomingo. |

With 4000+ posts, at least a few of 'em are bound to be readable... Good story, SantiagoDomingo! The name does have a good ring to it. Reminds me of an ancient Yello song from the 80s. Here's a chunk of the lyrics: We all know Domingo of santa clara Will be born today, tomorrow, and the day after Billions of times 'til the end of the universe Here with a smile on his face As the rest of our species watches The catastrophe Killer song - early techno tastiness. Here it is on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvsHnbzW6vU

I like playing with words. 'Delusions of persecution and grandeur'.. was my highway introduction into the world of Magick. The climb straight up the tree that culminated in my first mushroom trip was as fast as it was rough. Kundalini rising.. Rose pretty darn quick. 'Grandpersecutioner' is a handle that represents my triumph over psychosis.. upending the usual term that embodies schizophrenia.. and rearranging the symbols (language) that form our reality, in such a way as to regain control. I envision the Kings executioner, taking the blade to his own throat instead. Edward Norton shooting himself to kill his alter ego as Brad Pit. Acting decisions that can form or fall nations. The effects of our own cause. Dumb, yet so powerful. Awake, and then asleep. Stubborn still, unyielding to truth but creating an even greater one within the forgiving embrace of the creator. This- because the greatest journey I ever took, was both the hardest death, and the most fantastic re-birth. It was self harm, in the most perverted and also the most divine sense. "Take the red pill.. you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." 'Grandpersecutioner' really resembles the most epic part of myself. The 'sage in us all', and a self reminder of the battle that it took to reclaim my mind. My username is just a silly skin to shed, and another anchor to collapse. Thanks for the chance to share that. |

However as much as I identify with the S&M community I am more on the BD (bondage/Discipline) D/s (Dominance/Submission) side of this community. There is a lot of overlapping of these sets as in any group or community. I am the Dom/Daddy/Master to my sub/boy/slave. I am not truly a S in the fact that I do not get pleasure out of pain inflicted on another human. I enjoy providing the mind trip a submissive gets from the control/discipline/dominance that I require during the scene. Which provides me a mind set to escape my self. I have been approached by/been with Masochists where I have played a Sadist role.

I think that you tend to find more bears that are in the Fetish/SM community when you are out at bars in the gay community but truly I think there are more that are not. I think this goes with the fact that what is seen as a majority is the section of a community that is most visible. What are you going to notice more, the ones who blend into the crowd or the ones who stand out? I think this is why more people (NOT ALL) think gay = flamboyant feminine and bitchy queen stereotype. This is what stands out from a crowd. This is what is more visual and how people identify with stereotypes.

Wow. I was hitting my user CP for recent thread posts and this one popped up with a new post. I started this thread over 3 years ago, when I just barely understood mushie growing and I was no where near being a moderator (be careful what you wish for). Just read back through the whole shebang again. Reminds me of many brothers and sisters long gone and still others newly found, both here and in real life. I just took a moment to walk out in front of my apartment and pour some booze on the curb to celebrate my life and those lives which have intersected with mine, for good or ill. Love yer friends and hate your enemies with relish, friends and neighbors; life is a fleeting and beautiful gift. "May you [all] live to be a thousand years old." - Luggage Salesman Joe Vs. The Volcano "Those people who tell you not to take chances They are all missing on what life is about You only live once so take hold of the chance Don't end up like others the same song and dance" -Metallica Motorbreath "No matter where you go...there you are." -Peter Weller The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension

To me, my nym symbolizes a journey I started some time ago. After some climatic events in my life, I came to realize that so much of who I was, was based on loads of secondhand knowledge and blind truths that I had been fed my whole life, by the church, my government, mainstream society, and never questioned. I came to realize that I had little to no beliefs that were geniunely drawn from my own conclusions. I started over from scratch, creating my own unique identity. Also, on a particularly intense trip some time ago, I recollected a verse from one of the Upanishads which said somthing to the effect of "A fool says he knows all, a wise man says he knows nothing. The more we learn, the less we truley know. Kinda hard to wrap one's mind around that logic, but to me it makes so much sense. Edit: I'm here at Topia to learn though. Lol. So my name kinda fails!

I stumbled across the Band called Leftover Salmon about 12 years or so ago. A friend told me that this band was going to be playing a gig up the canyon from me and that she thought I might like em. The strange name appealed to me so I decided to check em out. I fell in love. Good bluegrass fusion style based out of Colorado. They have been one of my fav's ever since. I also enjoy fly fishing and eating Salmon and usually have some Leftovers in the fridge so ya... No real spectacular reason for the name. Just something I dig... | |

WeiliiCoyote I created this nym when I joined mycotopia. I grew up in a place where P. Weilii grows in abundance. For those of you who don't know, P. Weilii was discovered in 1996 in Cherokee county, GA (right after a hurricane blew thru). Since then they have spread around north metro atlanta and the surrounding areas (there have even been reports as far west as alabama and as far east as athens ga) It is an extremely potent Psilocybe mushroom, I usually eat 1/2- 3/4 a gram dried. On top of the high potency, Weilii's provide "different" visuals and feelings for me as opposed to cubes. Every spring and fall I go hunting for Weilii's. Hunting mushrooms is very therapedic for me, It gives me excercise, a chance to clear my head, commune with nature, and (last but not least) gives me a mind blowing experience. That is why the Weilii holds a special place in my heart. |

I've been SilvrHairDevil for years now. The SilvrHair part is self explanatory and one of my GFs used to call me a devil. Sort of a play on silver tongued devil. An aside to Sharkie Jones - where did you get your avatar? It's awesome and I've seen it somewhere before, but where?

Landogarner is the nickname of a character from a book series by Tad Williams. I really like the name and I found myself identifying with certain parts of the character so I started using it as my online handle a few years back and it's stuck with me ever since.

I enjoyed reading this thread. My nick comes from my actual character's name in the game Eve Online (Joric Kos). http://www.eveonline.com/download/videos/?type=2 Look me up if any of you play this MMO. The avatar is Dr. Timothy Leary whom I became interested in after seeing a short lecture/commercial he gave on MTV. After discovering who he was I read his autobiography "Flashbacks" at the age of 19 and he has been one of my heroes ever since.

As the McDonald's commercial says, "I'm lovin' it!" Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread! It lets folks get to know you without dangerously getting to know you. It is neat to hear the source of people's pseudonyms. Some folks put so much thought into them...others pick 'em right on out of a hat. Both ways of choosing are valid to me. I re-thought and soul searched almost endlessly before finally registering a nym here to ask a question. But that's me. I'm interested in YOU!!!!! It is neat to get a glimpse into the workings of people's minds when you only know them through typed (and/or re-edited) text. Most folks don't type at all like they talk, so to me, it is really cool to get that glimpse. Not that it tells me anything special, just that is different from the norm. I'm a big fan of different from the norm. Everybody around here, I think, wears a different face when posting than they do at any other time. I certainly do. There is stuff I will admit around here that I wouldn't admit to anybody but my wife...yet here, I am safe to admit it to the "crowd." That, to me, is the coolest thing about Mycotopia. That is the thing that keeps me coming back to Hip's house. I never type in fear of inconsiderate and undeserved recrimination here. I type here knowing that if somebody from the peanut gallery calls me an asshole for no reason - that somebody will be asked for justification for that "asshole" shout out. If I've been the asshole, I'll get burned to the ground. If, however, yon screamer from the cheap seats cannot prove his/her point, they shall be reminded to offer proof before accusing - and if they do not, they shall be first spanked and later banned from the site. I have immense respect for that mind set. I love this house and I'm glad you have all found a place here. This is a space like no other which exists...

I am pretty new here just wanted to say hello, love this place. I chose Danko in memory of Rick Danko, bass player for The Band. He was a wild man, quite the character, and a hell of a musician. Danko is also what my wife named our newest kitty.

ho-hum, the grateful dead. well, i have to admit, i wanted access to some pics so i signed up with not too much thought for the name and, surprised that it was available haven't managed to leave since...it wasn't pure laziness though, the name is close to me at all times. the way i hear garcia's vocals breathe life into the wino-hobo was something i immediatedly connected with on many levels. We'll put aside the fact that i never knew garcia, robert hunter or any 'real' reasoning or meaning behind the song. the way garcia conveys feeling is not dissimilar to our, and his, beloved entheogens...pumping it's 'message' through your filter and empowering the limitless-ness of available reality...if you're not into garcia, i can't explain it anymore than i can a psychedelic experience. though i connect with more 'enlightened' paths: martial arts, the pyschedelic new-age, art, spirituality...west's path is perhaps the most honest. west epitomizes the human struggle of light vs. darkness. how truly difficult a struggle it is to live in the light, even though you know it's there, have bathed in it's glow...the darkness somehow swallows you. Not unlike the juxtaposition of my avatar pic and my profile pic. i feel that way about garcia in general sometimes. that he was august west, even though, 'his' character in the song was just a dude who met august on the street. these aren't actually the lyrics being sung of course, but that's what i hear garcia saying in order to have any shot at the same feeling, reading the lyrics won't do, seeking out a recording is the way it must be. youtube or any thousands of live recordings available...i prefer early-mid 70's versions, but he always nailed - even when he didn't. as i said, i really struggle to put this sort of thing into language but i couldn't resist after reading some other people's reasons... on my profile page is a picture that, i believe was found after jerry's death. it was a drawing he'd done and the name on the back was august west - the only known image of the character ![]() wharf rat (august west's lines are in green) lyrics: hunter music: garcia Wharf rat down [sung as Old man down] way down down, down by the docks of the city, Blind and dirty asked me for a dime - a dime for a cup of coffee I got no dime but I got time to hear his story: My name is August West and I love my Pearly Baker best more than my wine ...more than My wine more than my maker though he's no friend of mine Everyone said I'd come to no good I knew I would Pearly believed them Half of my life I spent doin' time for some other fucker's crime Other half found me stumbling around drunk on burgundy wine But I'll get back on my feet someday The good Lord willing if He says I may 'cause I know the life I'm livin's no good I'll get a new start live the life I should I'll get up and fly away I'll get up and fly away... ...fly away Pearly's been true true to me, true to my dying day he said I said to him: I'm sure she's been I said to him: I'm sure she's been true to you I got up and wandered Wandered downtown nowhere to go just to hang around I got a girl named Bonny Lee I know that girl's been true to me I know she's been I'm sure she's been true to me
