    Any kyaker's here?

Here recently i've been introduced to white water kyaking. It's a load of fun if no one's ever tried it! My first time I went down the beginning of a river in VA that was really easy. I was thinking to myself, "man, that was too easy". lol. Then the next day we went to the bottom part of the river because the guy that I went with thought I was ready for more challenging rapids. So we get to the rapids and I was like "holy shit!". Man, these rapids were much more aggressive than the previous days. So first thing in the morning I start to hit the first section of the rapids and got rolled bigger than shit! Man, that shit hurt so bad. My legs were mangled by the rocks under water. I rolled then ejected out of the boat, holding onto my boat and paddle as I got mangled. But my boat's seating section got hung up upside down on a rock and was a major PITA to get off because of the white water. So about 20 minutes later my friend gets the boat off while i'm somewhat trapped on the opposite side of the river. He then tows the boat over with his and says, "ok, these next sections are pretty tough too". I'm thinking, "WTF are you talking about?". I was in a lot of pain! Just now recovered really. So we go down the remaining part of the rapids and I had no troubles. This section of the river with 4 rapids can be rode down and then you can tote your boat back to the top of the rapids for another go down them. I was kind of pissed off that I got dumped so quick, so I was stoked to hit the rapid that dumped me. I wasn't going to let that section kick my ass again you know? So we did all of the rapids 3 more times and I was flawless with my rides. So that works.

Anyone else enjoy white water kyaking?

    Whitewater is the shit!

I was a whitewater rafting guide for 8 years on the Ocoee, but when I go for fun, I use a Carlson River Board (boogie board on steroids). Look into riverboarding, it's incredible...and you'll get on to bigger water much faster with one since the learning curve is not as steep as with all boat-handling skills you need to learn to not die. You still gotta learn to read the water, which is harder when you're head is only about 8 inches above it, but you feel all the underwater currents like no one else can (I use flippers and wear mountain biking knee and shin guards under a wetsuit for armor, and look like a giant mutant frog from the nuke plant drain pipe or something).

Once you hit the river, there is no going back. Welcome aboard...

OMG, it's so sweet! I love outdoor sports of all kinds, but this sport is by far the most fun IMO. Although I got my ass kicked, (which I kind of expected to happen at some point) it was a blast! I'm glad I continued on with the remainder of the day. I was in rather bad pain though.

I want to check out the Cheat river in WV. Rafting of course. heh

I used to go alot when i was younger....and believe it or not they actually have kayaking parks with moveable boulders near where i live....its been awhile though- yeah its fun....but it does hurt LOL

For me seeing a hazard or rapid coming at me fast and thinking ....Oh crap!! iIm gonna die....then successfully navigating it is tons of fun....and once in awhile you see some stuff youve been through from a different angle up on the shore and think...."Im not right in the head..." for trying to go through it.

I don't have one either, but he has 3 of them. The one I was using was suited for beginners, but it's kind of barge really. lol. Like a battleship of something. Hehehe.

I was shopping around for one and they are quite costly to say the least!

they may be a bit pricey
but if you do it often and
have to pay rent on em
    that gets costly too....
I have always had to rent them

I used to kayak when I was younger, we'd go up north for it. It's something I'd like to get back into when I have the money to get one for myself..

I like it, loads of fun, I just hate flipping over under water though, I'm not smart enough to flip back up.

It's great if you find a river with lots of tubers. They spill beer and you can just swim up and grab it.. and there aint' much they can do about it...

I too love kayaking. I go up to a buddy's cottage quite a bit and cruise around the lake in his kayaks. It is a lot of fun. I wanted to buy a couple kayaks this year for my wife and myself so we could take them further up north on a camping trip we have planned, way up in moose country, and to be able to just go out on a whim to one of the beautiful lakes and rivers around home.

We found the ones we wanted online for a good price and were all set to go buy them, but didn't. What stopped that, was the $500+ racking system we would have to install onto our car roof to be able to transport them. It's lot's cheaper if your car already has the basic rack ontop, but ours doesn't, and I couldn't justify spending that when we are probably going to get a newer car within the next year...

It sure is a lot of fun and a great work out too.
