    Quitting Tobacco?

I quit a few days ago. I was ready. 10 years of smoking about 1/2 pack/day. That's not much for some of you.

I downloaded some paul McKenna. Quit Smoking Now available on torrentz.com

Anyone in the same boat or wanna jump in? We'll be smoking hash instead!

I'd love to join you in the hash boat!

I've been trying to quit for quite awhile now and never stop for more than 5 days or so. It is tough everyone I work with smokes and we don't have to wait for a break to smoke.

I just need to do it. Good luck.

I need to give it up again...the only problem is I love to smoke when I have been drinking. I think if I were to quit smoking(and stay quit) I would have to quit drinking too. I don't know that I want to do that at the moment. I certainly do enjoy my beer and my bourbon now and again.

I must have quit a 100 times. 10 years before I actually quit everything was better with a smoke but when you do decide to quit and you stick with it it's pretty empowering. I hope you stay with it and hash and herb is a great way to ween yourself off smokes but I also found myself smoking every bit of herb I could find at least cancer isn't intrinsic herb. Keep with it !

Well, in case you're wondering, the McKenna trance track talks specifically about drinking and the post-meal smoke. Like I said, you can bittorrent it ((provided you ALREADY *HAVE* a copy)) for free off that website I mentioned. If you feel you're ready, it'll work, but only if you're ready. To be honest, it was actually the second or third time I downloaded that exact same thing then finally did it.

He talks about throwing away your ashtrays and smokes and w/e will remind you of smoking. That might mean not drinking for the first few days now that I think of it. I actually drove today for the first time in a week in my car and the associations came back. Esp cause I was drinking a coffee. I quickly forgot about it. No biggie.

Smoking's weird, 'cause you do it to pass time, waste time, socialize, mark strong moods, be enigmatic or whatever. It seems so harmless but I guess it all adds up. That's why I stopped. For something so trivial, the consequences are great. If shrooms had massively negative consequences, I could understand. After all, they can take you to parallel realms. Smoking just kind of... I don't know.

I only did it to fit in with the fags I was hanging out with at the time. It's been in the back of my mind for awhile now that I don't even talk to those people and haven't for some time.

Well.. I don't know. Hopefully I'll stick to it so I won't be a hypocrite. To each their own and I know how enjoyable smoking can be so if you guys choose to stick to it, I totally understand :-). If it wasn't unhealthy, I'd still be doing it too.

that sucks. I'll try not to do that. I didn't realize relapse was so easy!

Smoking is such bullshit. I'm very sleepy right now so maybe I shouldn't type too much, but when looked at objectively, it's really nonsensical.

I've been off the cigs for about 3 months now. Hypnosis finally did the deed. I did 2 months of Chantix but didn't really want to quit. The hypnosis made me want to quit enough to do it.

I feel much better. Still have fairly severe COPD, but don't gasp nearly as much now. Kudos to quitters!

I thought the drinking would be the worst time for temptation, but it turned out to be while having coffee on the way to work and sitting at the kitchen table reading.

Bugs- I agree with the mental aspect of quiting. Whether by personal choice, hypnosis, etc.

I wanted to quit for over 2 years and failed multiple times on gum, zyban, patch, etc. Finally I tried Chantix and used it for 5 months. This is now month 8. The mind is the first piece that needs to quit, then the chemical and physical parts follow suit.

    Good luck, pneuma!

Chantix worked for me as well. I am over six months nicotine free! It's incredible! I've been off the Chantix for 3 months now, so you don't need to continue to take the Chantix in order to remain a nonsmoker.

It used to be, on other occasions I've quit, when I smelled another person's cigarette, it smelled soo good! Now, when I smell a cigarette, I make my tumor-causing, teeth staining, smelly puking habit face. I have no desire for it at all!

Chantix worked so well for me----then I had a couple of events in my life that rocked me,so I am smoking again.I also attribute my relapse to not taking the entire set of pills.

This might sound stupid (and it wouldn't be the first time), but I used to smoke 1/2 pack per day until 2 years ago. I worked construction and it was the only way I could get a 10 min break.

When I decided to quit I began carrying a small cigarette bat (a one-hitter whatever ya call it) and little bit of ground up buds with me. When my friends would go smoke cigs I'd go with em and hit my little bowl once or twice.

Gave me a fix for about 30 mins and made me forget about cigs.

Now, about 2 years later I haven't bought cigarettes yet. The best part is...I can bum one at the bar and not crave any more. Although, I enjoy at most 1 cigarette (or a few puffs) every few months, there are no cravings. No more addiction. I can go to work with people smoking in front of me and I am not bothered by it. NO MORE CRAVINGS!!!

Just thot I'd pass along my story, hope it helps.

I quit about 12 years ago. I would not recommend my method however.
Toecutter quit smoking in one night program:

1 bar, an exorbitant amount of Taquila, 2 packs of ciggs.

The next time I lit up, my body responded with a clear and resounding NO!
I can still drink Taquila fine, just not smoke cigaretts. I do smoke a pipe of tobacco once a month or so. Its something in the cigaretts that makes me sick.

I used wellbutrin to quit smoking for a year and a half. It worked pretty well for me, but I started again. I plan on taking wellbutrin again to help stop smoking.
I realized it's actually easy to quit, as long as you really want to. If any part of you doesn't eventually it will come out. I guess right now I'm just not ready to quit, but I know I should soon.

My update is that I HAVE smoked since quitting but no more than 3 a day. Sometimes none, sometimes only 1 or 2. I just see quiting as such a typical mind move to the extreme. Better to temper usage, imo. I did go for a week or so without.

I definitely have no real desire to smoke like I used to.

I too had similar rationalizations after my last failed attempt at stopping smoking. Better luck next time!

I quit smoking after a pack a day habit for around 20 years. I took up cross country mountain biking, road biking, skiing, rock climbing, etc. and my lungs just couldn't take the punishment.
I've quit drinking, i.v. cocaine use, meth., and a host of others but nicotine is somehow different.
The obsession to smoke never went away so after one year I gave up. Now I use smokeless tobacco and the occasional cigar and find the habit is much less but still just as compulsive.
It's an all or nothing venture with me. Either I quit or I use tobacco. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

Best of luck to anyone who tries and to those who have successfully quit......my hat is off to you.

I bought a one hitter and used it with rolling tobacco, which was nice for a craving that didn't require an entire cigarette.
I also quit for days at a time until I get into a bad mood - coming of age angst and nihilism. I figure I'll quit for good once I pass out of this phase.

Best of luck. I havent smoked in just over a year. I quit countless times before. I finally quit drinking for a while just so I wouldnt smoke. After about 6 months of not smoking or drinking I went out and got hammered. Well, the old pattern kicked back in and a smoked about a pack of cigs that night. The next morning I had the worst hang over of my life. I have drank since but I havent smoked. I had a doctor tell me that even though I had failed in the past, the odds of success are much greater each time you try. I guess what I am saying is that you should never give up on something you truly want.
