Comet Holmes - visible with naked eye

    Comet Holmes is incredible.

    i just saw it tonight.

it has no tail but has a bright spot in the center.
it is amazing to see with binoculars,
but it can be seen with the naked eye.

the weird thing is we had 'lost' this comet for several decades
    now it suddenly appeared.

even more strange is that it was magnitude 17 in middle October
which is thousands of times dimmer than the average star
Then almost OVERNIGHT the comet Holmes got about
    400,000-times brighter
    bringing it to 3rd magnitude

i highly recommend seeing it if you live in the Northern Hemisphere
it sits just below Cassiopeia and can be read about more at these links

it should be around for a few weeks i think
    funny..
i was thinking to PM you Chip to see if you already
    made a thread on it
it is the brightest comet i have ever seen

also - a satellite passed by just as i had the comet in my binnocular sights
so i followed it all the way across the sky

i hope some of you get to see it

i found info online that says
Perseus is a southern hemisphere constellation
the brightest star in perseus is mirfak
..and mirfak is one of the top brightest stars in the southern hemisphere's spring season

so i think you would be able to cheshire
at the right time and without too much light pollution
    goodluck

I am pretty sure, I can see it tonight. I need to go and get my telescope out of storage to get a better look.

okay i was wrong about it being visible until March

according to what i am reading the 'flare-up '
will only last about a month or so
so try and catch it if you can

i'll be sure to break out the telescope tonight to get a proper view.
-but a pair of binnoculars does wonders also,
    if no telescope is available

Spectacular comet bursts into night sky

i did not realize that this is the most dramatic increase in magnitude
    ever seen in a comet
