Cocaine Vaccine?

Scientists have come up with a cocaine vaccine. Interesting read, I wonder if it works.

The vaccine does not stop the craving for cocaine, but will stop addicts experiencing a high when they take it.

This drug sounds like cocaine's answer to methadone, but without the daily maintenance. Requiring doses only twice a year would be much less invasive, but it seems a bit optimistic IMHO. But it may be just the thing for some people to kick the monkey.

There is a good documentary on this type of pharmaceutical research. The name alludes me at the moment (too stoned to remember, but Ill post it when I think of it) but it was on HBO last year. Dealt mostly with heroin addicts, but mentioned some interesting developments in fighting coke and meth addiction too.

Knowing three people who's hearts gave out after doing a line or two (even after years of otherwise uneventful heavy use in one case) worked as an effective cocaine vaccine for me! A few other friends dropping dead from various pill combinations worked well as a "pharmaceutical vaccine" for me, too.

When a dude hanging out with you just falls over dead, it makes an impression. It's odd that telling people about those horrible nights does not work; you really have to be there in person. When I relate the details of those events, people still using coke or eating pills just say "I don't need to hear something like that!" and then go somewhere else to party. That's fine with me since calling 911 or carrying a body out to the car is a major buzz kill, and I prefer it all happens somewhere else. Dead people are a lot harder to move than most people think.
