| In praise of good Scotch... Just recently got the all clear to start drinking again...guess what I started with? Well, if ya don't know, ya didn't read the title of the post! Seriously, I'm working my way through a fifth of The Balvenie SherryOak 17 as I type this (God bless friends/family who give good booze for Christmas, by the way) and I'm wondering..... Any other Scotch drinkers out there? If so, what is your favorite (that you've had) and what is your favorite (that you've only dreamed of, or maybe just sampled a taste of). I guess the real question is, what is your dream bottle (assuming that money and/or availability in your area are not an issue). Highland, Speyside, Islay...single malt, blended...don't matter a bit. Truth be told, "plain old Dewars" is a damned fine drink, if ya ask me. Personal opinions are just that and shouldn't be dissed, regardless of what they might be. This thread ain't about bustin' on yer favorites, it is about helping me find a few new faves to sample! Hell, tell me your favorite bourbon if you prefer! Wild Turkey Rare Breed can give most great Scotch a real run for it's money, if ya ask me. Gentleman Jack ain't no slouch either. Again, NOT meaning to diss anybody's drink of choice...even if it is Old Grandad or 20 Pipers (and if ya feel the need to slam somebody's favorite, please do it elsewhere). Just wondering what kinda hard stuff y'all might enjoy sipping. Scotch has been on my "no-no" list for almost a year now, but not any more! Ya never know who will introduce you to a new favorite, ya know? So, again, PLEASE no dissing...just tell me what ya dig (and maybe a little about why ya dig it). I'll start by saying this Balvenie is DAMNED good...but I really prefer Glen Fiddich Solera Reserve (even though it is quite a bit cheaper and often considered crap by "real" Scotch drinkers). Oh, and as a side note, if ya ever want to really enjoy yer Scotch...quit drinking much for a friggin' year...

| Well said Buck. Myself, I always have a stock of Gentleman Jack, and Johnny Walker Red and Black laying around. For a very fine single malt scotch, I just picked up a bottle of Johnny Walker King George V Edition. Its very smooth, i add a splash of sprite and its like ![]()

| Laphroaig ("The beautiful hollow by the broad bay") Islay single malt is always my fave tipple. Especially at this time of year. The 15 year is less 'peaty' than the 10 year but both are really smooth. Bunnahabain as well. Both from Islay. Me and the wife bought a bottle of Glenlivet for my dad last christmas and ended up necking it and that was pretty nice as well. A bit too much bite for my liking - I prefer it a bit smoother - but a nice drink none the less.

| After a long summer day; Or days so cold the penguins would rather be indoors a good drink can remove the edge and give me a natural high, sense of well being and 'at peace'. Once that first drink goes down the grill in my yard looks so inviting. The warmth and comfort of home and friends tell me how lucky I am to be alive. I Love Bourbon. Four Roses has to be one of the smoothest bourbons I have been fortunate enough to have in my chest. That winter sip goes down like a warm cup of bourbon flavored coffee, even if it has been chilled. Here's to good drinks ![]()

| Don't like scotch much, but looove burbon. Got a Bottle of Gentleman Jack and Maker's Mark for Xmas presents and the Maker's Mark was superior by far imo, although both were very nice...
