I smoked my last cigarette and drank my last RedBull 2 1/2 hours ago. With the money that Merm and I will save from cigarettes and Redbulls we could buy a car j/k

I drink 3-4 of those a day also, sometimes more. Those and cigarettes add up to some nice change.

You guys can do it. Keep it up.

It is easier if you 2 work together in my opinion. Giving and getting real time support is important.

    Keep it up!

Stock up on hard candy and blow pops. Chew gum til your jaws hurt.

I find myself needing less sleep too. Tossed and turned quite a bit last night.
I'm glad that CM is joining me. Definitely helps.
He just said he's gonna take a trip to the candy store ASAP.

Get Candy straw's (twizlers), and a buy a box of bendy straws or something. My friend who quit said the feeling of smoking something helps with cravings.

I enjoy the smell of smokers... but when I grew up I never was around smokers really. Kind of weird.

Ive been telling my self to slow down...but of course I haven't.

Keep it up i know its hard, I remember when I was 14 we moved and, well it was basically a cross country trip, no way to get cigarettes. I was 14 and smoking quite a bit for my age, and well I went through withdrawal. Started smoking again at 17, slowly made my way up to 2 packs a week.

I know how hard it is to quit. Sending good vibes,

Wow....you guys are doing great. Great thread Merm!

I still smoke a couple a day......especially when I drink. But there are days that I don't smoke at all, mostly when I have my kids. They've never seen me smoke.

I need to quit i'm sure completely, but I justify not doing so because I don't smoke that much....imo. Anyone else struggling with this scenerio??

i see the results of smoking all the time and none of them are good. your daughter loves you enough to tell you the harm you were doing yourself. that alone tells you something about the daughter you've raised! congrats. they are expensive, they smell and taste horrible. they kill you and after all that you don't even get high. there is no return on that investment! lol good luck quitting.

I haven't had a cigarette since January 8th. Has been a struggle for the first few weeks but it isn't really that bad now that I have my mind made up to not smoke any more.

Congrats Sun. It takes a lot of personal strength and self discipline to do what you have done. You will be a better person in all aspects of your life from going through the pain. No longer being a slave to an industry that is nothing short of evil is something in itself to be proud of.

    This thread is great!

Hope you guys are still on the wagon! I tried to quit for probably 4-5 years with limited success before i managed to stick with it, and i only smoked maybe 5 a day. The car was the hardest place for me, so i tried to keep a pack of gum there so that i could at least have a similar ritual of get in, fasten seatbelt, unwrap something to put in mouth. Lollipops are better, because they give you something to do with your hand as well.

I quit 'for good' a couple of years ago. I do however, allow myself to smoke when i'm at Burning Man because 1) i'm on vacation 2)Burning Man is definitely the place to do things you don't do at home and 3)In many ways it's like a giant bar... pretty hard not to smoke if you're a smoker, ex or otherwise. I may have to stop doing that as well though, since last year i came back and got pneumonia for 2 weeks.

I hope all who posted here are having success in their attempts to quit the cigs...

...Don't believe anyone who says you can't quit cold turkey...it's simply not true as a generalization...it can and does happen! Took several attempts but I got there 7 years ago.

I lost my dad to lung cancer recently and hope no one goes through that...it's just not worth it. Don't ignore the red flags!

I am amazed at the sense of community on this board!! I commend anyone trying to quit as I myself have been a smoker since college... some time ago. I am willing to donate Lobelia inflata to anyone wishing to try and kick the habit with some herbal help. Lobelia acts upon the nicotinic receptors in the brain and is said to allieviate cravings nicely since it clogs up the nicotine receptors. Anyhow, I am just throwing that out there and its up to you to research the dose and effects etc.. Email me (KTBotanicals@aol.com) with your address and a note and I will mail you a week's supply, don't worry about shipping I will take care of it. Its the first week thats miserable... for me anyway. I would wake up in a panic in the middle of the night for no apparent reason except for a severe craving for a cig. Anyhow, when I was trying to quit lobelia helped me out quite a bit.

Another plant that helped me out quite a bit was ephedra. Synthetic ephedrine will do as well (get it from a grocery store "Primatine"). Anyhow, I noticed that when I took ephedra, cigarettes made me feel extremely weak and sick at my stomach. Almost like that feelnig you get when you swallow chewing tobacco juice. I suppose my theory for this is that ephedrine is a very strong stimulant, as is nicotine... the combination of the two makes one feel kinda overdosed. This was effective as well since it makes the brain associate a cigarette with a severe sick feeling therefore breaking the psychological dependence aspect of addicition. Ephedra also speeds up your metabolism quite a bit, and helps your body break down the nicotine that is floating around in you causing the cravings. If you raise your metabolism and ge tthe nicotine out faster, you have a higher chance of getting through the withdrawals. This is of course, just my opinion.

I jumped on the quitting wagon as well. i had a lot of life changing events pile up on me in January and it all climaxed on the 1st of this month. I haven't bought or touched a cig since. Only aide so far has been music. Never felt the need to use any kinda supplement or craving killer. Hasn't been what i'd call easy though.

hope everyone else is sticking with it. good luck

Fighting with nicotine addiction is the easiest part. I can quit for a few days and feel bad for a day or two, but the problem is the habit. Every smoker enjoys cigarretes. That's the problem with them. It's like saying no to sex or shrooms ;]. But of course it pays off in our health. I got the smoker habit from joints actually. After I begun smoking joints I loved that feeling of holding the light between my fingers and sucking the smoke so much that I started smoking. It's so pleasant!

Now I smoke only ocassionally. But still a nice joint is far better than a cigarette and I really try not to smoke anything else :P. Anyway - it's Camel time! ;]

    Wish you all good luck!

Just wanted to show my support for all those that are going to quit in this thread.

I've never had nicotine except in spliffs and blunts so I don't know the full extent that it is addicting, but I know it's one of the most, if not THE most addicting substance on this planet.

I wish my parents had the strength that you folks have,
I can't stand to see them slowly killing themselves,
    and for what? NOTHING.

I'm proud of all of you

i used to smoke... and i quit cold turkey no prob.

and i've heard that cigarettes are harder to kick than heroin.

i truly believe that it's mind over matter. if you TRULY want to quit, then you can quit. use your mind. your mind can get you through it. that's how i was able to quit. if you put your mind to it, you truly can accomplish your goals. don't give up!

    cigarettes = suicide
