Thought I'd share a couple pics of my find from yesterdays hunt. This is from my other hobby, but I had to share since I was pretty happy with the find. It appearsto be an early archaic period point, 8000-4000 BC. Probably a variant of the Stilwell, Thebes, or Hardin cultures.I had only been in the creek for about 2 minutes when I noticed the edge of the blade poking through the rock and sand . I was very excited to see it was whole as I removed it from the gravel. It is a white/gray flint, and appears to have been heat treated due to the red coloration near the tip. Its just under 4 inches long. Foster |

I've enjoyed arrowhead hunting myself in the past, but was not too adept at spotting them. I had a friend though who had the knack. We would be walking along a row in a field and he would say "Look, arrowhead!" I wouldn't be able to see anything. When he would point it out there might be just an edge poking out of the dirt that still wouldn't look like anything to me, but sure enough, lifted out of the dirt it would turn out to be for real. He just had a gift for seeing something in that exposed fleck of stone that sang manmade to him...cool guy!

Thanks all for compliments. Yeah eastwood, field finds tend to be much less polished and usually have sharper edges. The fields around here are no longer plowed, all no till, so the creeks are where its at. Everything washes downhill, and ends up in the bottoms. I rarely hunt fields, but have a few good ones where I have permission to access. Peace Foster

Cool, Always fun to hunt bottles, arrowhead, jar lids, and all kinds of goodies. I find ceramic mason jar lids every hunt. So many I no longer pick them up. Also find alot of porcelain jars and old bottles. The 2 coolest I have found are : Kickapoo Indian snake oil, and a Dr. somethin or others's tasteless chill tonic. Pretty cool bottles. |

Cool find Foster! Thats always exciting when you find something whole. I have lived in TN where there was a dirt pile near a creak under and overhang of rocks and friends and there was a sifter and shovel there to sift for arrowheads. I found a couple there which were whole. Its simply amazing that you have a tool in such a modern age that a race of people that aren't around anymore used. Its fascinating to me. It proves that people lived much more efficiently back then.
