well the martians reached the pinnacle of civilization, creating a utopian society that had technologies even more sophisticated as our own. unfortunately they had also gone through their fossil and nuclear ages and their atmosphere was so polluted that eventually that all life was in danger of mass extinction should anything beyond their control happen. then something did happen. as earth was just beginning to flourish with higher reptilian lifeforms (dinos), a meteor came in and smashed earth, causing it them to all go extinct or go underground. the martians were observing this just as they were beginning to reach the upper limits of their population. luckily they figured that earth would soon recover, and that the next lifeforms to dominate would be those hardy reptiles that adapted by going underground or underwater and a bigger range of mammals. they found similar genetics that could be improved upon with a little evolutionary help in the form of a certain chimpanzee. back on mars however the planet was way exceeding its lfie support and the martians knew that if just a single thing tipped this unbalanced balance then they would all perish. in earth they saw the potential for martians to live on in monkees. so they introduced a few plants there, a few mushrooms there hoping that man would learn instructions from these originally martian lifeforms and evolve into a sister race of martians. but in the middle of this, a meteor hit mars and it hit with so much force that it was knocked out of habitable orbit around the sun, and became a hot and dry place for millions of years. then the dust settled and the atmosphere had changed, leaving little to nothing of the energy of the sun to create life again...

however, their experiment still goes on. their monkees had advanced along the protocols they'd expected and flourished into a society much like they were. now, the hibernating martians that went underground, await our arrival to help unite the two races! ...

but the lizard people, the illuminati, free-masons, etc were at one time enemies of the martians and see this unification as the downfall of their dominance over the weak and feeble human, who is too creative, free spirited and loving (like the martians had programmed), to allow their project to succeed. they think that by dragging us to fight each other off and distract us from reaching mars and knowing too much that we will never achieve the goal of making a free mars and earth united. what they want is a earth divided and mars conquered. mars to fuel their greedy and selfish desires to make humans the slaves of the lizard people, the lost dinos that had been made into an image of man in order to regain their original prominence!

*Do not take what I say in no way to be the truth, I do not claim this to be actual fact. It would be better to know that there are no lizard people or higher martians or secrete society evolved from outer solar system beings vying for control of the human race. What is important to know is that we have made it to mars, discovered water and an organism able to be revived!

mars may have lacked sufficient gravity,
being only about 1/10th as massive as earth,
to hold on to its' atmosphere,
which gradually 'leaked' off into deep space,
    letting the planet cool dramatically.
loss of air pressure would vaporize water too,
which would have then leaked away.
    that's one theory....

um, our gravity would still remain.
    so totally different.
but it is true that mars has virtually no magnetic field,
perhaps because of its' smaller size again.
some speculate that mars no longer has a molten core like earth,
it cooled off and solidified since it was much smaller, under less pressure.
without the flow of molten metals to create a magnetic field,
    mars became magnetically dead.
    that's one theory...

or a skeptic who might want to actually find one
before sending out the formal announcements.

    but sure,
    we're already finding extra-solar planets
    by the hundreds-
    no paradise yet
but our sensors are not yet refined enough
    to see an 'earth II'
even if it were next door, astronomically-speaking.
    but soon.

it's a shame we missed seeing mars when it was wet, warm.
two paradises in one star system
    would be fantastic luck.

can Mars' core be rebooted? err, jump-started? if Mars was able to regain a maintained magnetic field, an atmosphere could be sustained?

say we cored deep enough to dump our radioactive waste into mars, like a spent nuclear fuel furnace. eventually the core heats up, life trickles up, nitrogen and oxygen begin building up. speaking of atmosphere, we could pump the excess carbon monoxide, nitric oxide, and methane to mars to speed up atmospheric pressure.
i may be stupid, but if our planet continues the growth its at now, we are dangerously risking the extinction of millions upon millions of lifeforms at present. somebody said that at present american levels of consumption the world needs two more earth's. where are we going to get two more planets?

some think it might be possible to engineer [ 'terraform'] a
    martian resurrection,
    at least an atmosphere.
[i think re-starting the core would be far beyond our ability]
    and while an artificial atmosphere
would eventually leak away due to the same low gravity
it'd still take a few million years to do so,
plenty of time for humanity's needs.
