![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | so i stopped my addiction
so far. i stopped drinking sodas. i used to drink dr pepper. then moved on to diet cherry dr pepper and coke 0. i was getting to the point, where if i bought the sodas it was a race to see who could finish them first. even though i was the only one drinking them. 12 pack here. gone in one day. 3 liter here gone in one day. if there are 2- 3 liters. gone. i find myself getting migranes when i don't have caffeine. so im making an effort to stop the sodas and lower my caffeine intake. so far its been 2 weeks. the cravings stopped and i feel good so far. hopefully i can ride this wave forever. im drinking purified water and ice tea now. occasionally cranberry juice.

Mine was sprite! I dropped it a few years back and felt a lot better after a few days. Now i drink green tea and watered down fruit juice with an occasional orange soda here or there.

its a bitch to quit drinking soda that is for sure. i stopped drinking it a year ago for the same reason here 1 min gone the next. also i picked up drinking it so much when i lost my job in a factory and ended up working at subway because jobs are hard to come by here. none the less i got 2 kids, a wife, a dog, and myself to watch after. so the soda had to go now i use the money for my kids some icecream.

Doesn't tea have more caffeine than soda? Just curious. I mean, I am (trying to) quit soda and juices myself, but its more because of the sugar intake than the caffeine. Hell, I used to drink about 4-5 cans of Coke a day. If I remember correctly they are about 140 calories a can, making the total about 700 calories a day I can cut out from my day from just replacing my drinks with water. Hell, who needs to run with that much of a reduction.

But seriously the addictive properties lie in the caffeine. FUCK CAFFEINE.

great job EATS ![]() its tough to break the thinks , but it seems you have a handle on how to deal with this..... bravo my friend ! I found soda consumption to be habitual rather that addicting. the amount of caffiene wasn't very noticable to me. I switched to straight up caffiene and in addition I began taking ephedrine HCL (ordered from Canada). The Substitute caused me to lose 40 lbs. .... which was welcome . BUT , man do I fly off the handle...QuicK. It's water ,green tean , and occationally coffee ta boot ( wind me up n watch me go). But , I'm gunna lose the habit of using stimulants eventually. My addictive personality just won't stop. Anyway , KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON BRO ! Peace and best wishes, LSD

Eats, first congrats on the decision to take back control of your diet! My buddy stopped eating dairy and sweetened drinks. He dropped ten lbs in the first week. He couldnt keep on because he couldnt stop eating cheese, but it was pretty amazing to see that result in such a short time. The only advice I could give you is to stay away from sweet tea. I would go with some better standby that has less calories and sugar, maybe unsweetened or just barely sweetened. Artificial sweeteners are not healthy, at least for me. They cause me migraines and stomach discomfort after even a single 12oz can. Eating or drinking the wrong stuff at the wrong times fucks with some peoples glycemic index. For instance, when I eat breakfast I end up hungry all day. I skip breakfast and Im not hungry until later at night. If I eat any sugar in the morning I feel sick all day. The key is Temet Nosce or gnothi seauton. Its funny, I only used to drink when I was very thirsty and I only drank water. With my ex she would always have to have some sort of drink near her and I thought that was odd. But with me it has become a habit to have a drink nearby at all times. I wonder if it replaced smoking cigs? hmm. And for some reason I do not like water. I wonder if a person can truly be addicted to sugar? I bet so. Keep me posted bro I am pulling for you!

Eats good work man!! ![]() I used to drink Dr. Pepper like a mad man myself and had a hell of a time giving it up. I swear it was harder to quit the Doctor than cocaine!! My next 2 habits to kick are cigs and Cuban coffee. Hang in there man. Eventually you won't even think of soda.

In countries outside of the US, they still use real sugar but that's cost prohibitive here when you think about how much soda americans consume. Too bad, real sugar has a real snap to it! I loved drinking soda when i was in Oz and i could have only one without feeling like i needed another and another...

Congrats Eats, I did the same and have lost almost 10 lbs so far. I still drink coffee but cut out sodas and sugar which have been my serious addiction for years. its amazing how hard it can be to find cold drinks that aren't loaded with sugar. I guess water is our basic drink but we are all flavor addicts it seems.

G'luck man! Check out yerba mate if you like green tea. It has other xanthine compounds that make the caffeine not so jittery and more positive IMO. Several of the xanthine compounds in mate actually cause a relaxing of the smooth muscle tissue, which would be nice after a workout.

Electrolytes are a fancy name for something simple and powerful and without it we cant survive but we are warned against it by most Drs- Its salt, sodium, chloride, and a host of other minerals like potassium, calcium, and magnesium, to name a few. Electrolytes are just another name for Salt, real salt is something we cant live without consuming, but table salt is something else- its only sodium and cloride ions stripped of all the other beneficial minerals, not good stuff, we cant assimilate it so it becomes poisonous. Funny how we are told not to eat salt when we would die without it, but one type is real and essential to life and the other is definitely bad and causes health problems. Studies show that the savings in healthcare dollars by eliminating table salt from the diet are in the billions in the US. Electrolytes are real salt, saline minerals we need to live and thrive. Table salt is poison, but electrolytes are gooooooood. Take a mineral salt bath and hydrate your body, soak in it long enough and it feels like the effects of a pain killer, its very good for you. And Aspartame, aka equal, found in diet sodas and gums and other sugar free substances was originally developed as a biological weapon by a company headed by Donald Rumsfeld.. and then it suddenly got thru the friendly neighborhood FDA, which we all trust to protect us, and became a sweetener for our diet soda so I wouldnt touch the stuff. Its a neurotoxin and it was designed for war. Since its in the diet sodas I guess they want to take out the fatties first. Poor fatties. Just exercise and eat less, eat right, and take your chances with the pesticides and hormones and genetic engineering in the food like the rest of us. Its a messy mesh of science and business, reminds me of psychologists helping design commercials to convince kids to ask parents for toys or candy. Good ol science vs nature. Science might kill US off, but in the end, my money says nature will endure...and the ol adage still stands- (Know thyself and) NOTHIN IN EXCESS- sophrosune. |

Have you cut sugar and caffiene completely out of your diet, or are you just avoiding soda? You never stop an addiction. Its always there, lurking in the shadows, waiting for a moment of weakness and then POW!! back to square one. You gotta just pick yourself up and keep going though.

If you eat out and order iced tea I was told that the lemon wedges are very dangerous to use. They are pre sliced and sit there all day with every waiter/waitress sticking thier hands in them. Just thought id throw that out there. My doctor told me that one.

I also drink iced tea (unsweetened) and it has helped tremendously. By the way the lemon thing is bull shit, As a former health inspector I can tell you that the lemon is way to acidic to even think of growing anything pathogenic. Acid levels of 4.6 and below cannot grow any bugs that can hurt you.

F*CK! FU*K! F*CK! I'm right behind you eats - but it's a hateful thing. I don't get much and I'm addicted to pepsi bad. 6 pack/day monkey and F*CK! This storm is going to force me cold turkey too. Guess I deserve it for knowing better and doing it anyway... ![]() ![]() ![]() Good for you! ![]() Guess now I gotta just forget it and move on. It's really bad stuff. ![]() Ahhh....Good buy my nasty Pepsi. I think you just get fire addicted and hopefully once I'm away it won't be so bad. Part of mine is I have used it on the run so much for "liquid breakfast" and now more bother too but it really is bad stuff. I think you drink pop in the US because we're such a inhuman brute savage suicidal culture you end up doing it too when you're around it - like going to Disney or a old whore house...fu*k...drugs and young people are good for me! ![]()

All those fake sugars are crap I totally agree with Rocketman, I think there poison! It takes a lot to change your lifestyle and you should be proud I only drink Vitamin water and gingerale that is the only sugars I drink and I avoid salt, sugars, and preservatives in food. Good Luck man! All the best! Mahalo,Dani

Im not a soda drinker anymore, but Pepsi just came out with 'throwback Pepsi' made with real sugar! Sounds weird to get excited about a soda with real sugar but its so good, its only limited time tho, which is probably a good thing.

i have a serious bread addiction!!!! i've stopped eating bread as much as i can. also crackers, pasta, chips, cookies, etc - just empty carbohydrates..... i have lost a LOT of weight. it's really hard.... most of the time i just want to wolf down a giant loaf of crusty, chewy french bread slathered with butter... and it makes me grumpy that i can't do that. but i push on. i allow myself to eat some delicious carbohydrates now and again, and that makes it easier to avoid them the rest of the time. well, i just thought it was relevant cause bread is a carb just like sugar, and carbs are terribly addictive.... heh

Good on you Eats. Hope you can stick with it! ![]() ![]() ![]() I was married to a southerner and her whole family drank exclusively sweet tea, coke, and coffee. Seriously, my sister-in-law NEVER EVER drinks water. Just soda. I also noticed in most places in the south you don't get a glass of water when you sit down, they ask you if you want coke or tea. Hmmm. And they wonder why they always feel like shit. ![]() I live in the NW of the states, and not nearly as many people here have a daily soda habit as I think do in the south or east coast. I am lucky that my hippie parents didn't ever feed me soda, and I never really developed a taste for it. When I crave carbonation i crack a cold malted hop soda. Glad for it, I don't need another vice to worry about on top of my current ones.Prob doesn't help that we put coke machines in all our public schools either . . Peace All! ![]() TR

I haven't drank soda in a few years now and it is great although I do crave it now and then, but if I do decide to have one I quickly realize it is crap and burns like hell. Nothing good or beneficial at all. they should out law the garbage.
