Psilocybe azurescens - Spring fruiting

Outdoor cultivated mushroom beds are far denser with mycelium than wild patches. This tends to encourage minor out of season fruitings when the weather cooperates.

Photos of Psilocybe azurescens in the PNW taken on 4/1/06.

That is pretty damn neato! Spring fruiting, huh? Is this a common occurance among outdoor patches that have been planted by humans?

great pix!
Ok, you got me. The frog and snail weren't actually on the mushrooms when I found them. I invoked the photonaturalists method (images may be recreations of actual events). There was a small slug on the mushrooms, but when I moved him to a better position he refused to extend himself and merely looked like a slimy blob. The snail took forever to come out of his shell for a photo, but I think it was worth the wait.

Before it occured to me that I could put a critter on the mushrooms for a photo, I watched a newt crawl across ground. When I went back to collect him for a photo he was long gone.

I tried growing them indoors years ago with limited success (a few skinny mushrooms). I haven't really tried since then, but my skills have improved and so a better success would be more likely today.
