    Natural Muscle Relaxer?

I have a reoccurring Muscle spasm/pinched nerve thing that bothers me to no end lately. I went to the doctor, who just referred me on to a specialist and prescribed me Flexeril. When I take that shit I can't even keep awake. I don't like it. So I'm trying to find a natural muscle relaxer that won't put me down and out. When I try to Google it I get waaaayyyy too much info and the majority is bullshit statements by merchants touting their products.
Can anyone here put me on the right track? I would really appreciate it.

Please don't say cannabis, I'm already trying that.
    It only helps so much.

I got some very deep physical and mental relaxation from moclobemide and leaf aya. I could feel all my muscles popping open, especially ones which were subconciously tense without me knowing.

I was kind of thinking more conventional herbs, less psychoactive, if you know what I mean.
I did read some of your thread on your moclobemide and Aya experiments Phalanx (formerly Leprechaun right?).
    Interesting.
    Alas I have no moclobemide.

Aya might give you long term relief without having to be groggy all day everyday on cannabis etc.

To get moclobemide, go to you doctor and say you are depressed cos of your back. As specifically for it because you feel it is safer than the ssri antidepressants like prozac, which I think is true and reasonable to say. ssri's and tricyclics are front line treatment, and moc is only given if ssri's etc don't work. But you should get it if you emphasise that you have read up on ssri's and tricyclic shit-pills and feel they are useless/dangerous/too many side effects.

I nearly forgot. Atropine in belladonna and hyoscine/scopolamine in datura are anti-spasmodics. You can get it easily in some travel sickness pills. Maybe you should ask your doctor about it. There are other perscription forms i think.

Would be nice to know something I could pick up from the local herbal store. I just started working out and my quads are killing me.

my experience with flexeril, soma, and other muscle relaxers is that i quickly build a tolerance to them. it took a week or so, but after that the drowsiness went away. i would take them at bedtime if you have to work or drive and can stand the pain during the day. u might ask your doc for ultram or darvocet, to take during the day and the flexoril at night.....if u dont talk to them they assume everything is fine with you, and their god complex continues......so let the doc know. My two centavos. Do Not Drink while on any muscle relaxers, it will fry a liver quickly.

I can't recommend anything for chronic pain, other than perhaps some opium tea, but that'll make you groggier than the cannabis...

But for Sweetness, as far as muscle soreness after a work out, a can of albacore tuna in water is the best. After a heavy workout, especially quads, eat a can of albacore tuna (line caught albacore, not 'tuna' tuna - higher in protein and less fat). A muscle relaxer might numb the pain but it won't help regrow muscle tissue, which is what you feel after a workout - micro tears in muscle that are slowly being repaired. High quality protein, esp. albacore tuna, will rapidly speed up that process, also drinking lots of fresh water, as the ATP process is water fuelled.

A steak is good too, but much more expensive, more fat, and lower quality protein. Albacore has the highest quality protein for lowest price, hands down.

Tiger Balm might work, if your thinking topical
-not exactly long term though. Valerian root
might also be an option, not sure though.

Yes, there isn't much pain that poppie tea couldn't kill.
But daily use of that would quickly become a problem.

I picked up some herbs today at an herb store.
I'm going to try some out.
I've got some kava kava, valerian, skull cap, passion flower, and hops.
    We'll see.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

I'm also interested in this homemade painkiller Quagmire. I live with chronic pain and cannot take pain meds.

I used to keep Tiger Balm on hand. Forgot all about it. I have included milk and yogurt back in my diet and I eat plenty of lean meats and fish to get the glutamine. I'm feeling so much better today. Time to rip again.

    OK Quagmire,

if you have some secret homemade painkiller you need to bring it

If it's a new one on me, I'll give you a dollar.

barring that, you can go to
    www.mastersmarketing.com
and get soma cheap as dirt and legally -
I recently got 200 for about $50 give or take, if I recall.
go to the website and email Julie for a price quote on soma-
they don't sell anything crazy like pain meds, but if you need
Europe-legal meds then they have it for CHEAP.

As for herbals, passionflower works for me from time to time
when I'm feeling natural (not very often).
    Your mileage may vary.
I keep herbals for recreation - if you want sexual healing for
your body and soul you have to go the pharm route IMO

okay guys i've been real busy and have been missing out, the board looks good.

for soreness when working out try creatine monohydrate, it flushes the muscle tissue with water and will allow the lactic acid build up to wash out, and also a muscle tonic for general relaxation is wild yam root, i've used it in conjunction with creatine monohydrate, tiger balm and epsom baths, works good.

now i have to point out that kava, passa flora, valerian, and skullcap are all relaxants of a sort, not specifically muscle relaxants, they will put you in a state of mind that would not be conducive to wakefulness.

now personally i've found kratom works as a good muscle relaxant, but that isn't proven and i can't find any research leaning that way, nor have i really looked. i would rather be on kratom than kava or valerian when trying to do my day to day when dealing with muscle pain and spasm.

oh- i forgot the best treatment, get someone to rub ya down.

Try a poultice of chamomile and comfrey in a 2:1 ratio... this is more for soreness than for spasms or chronic pain. Also valerian (relaxant, mild sleepyness, chamomile, gotu cola (shrinks swollen membranes), ginseng (red), and ginko biloba taken in combination regularly for at least 2 weeks. To avoid sleepiness take less of the valerian. Yerba mate is good for the vitamins too... Feel better man, pinched nerves are a bitch. c'est la guerre...

    Thanks man.
Yerba Mate is a daily part of my life and has been for sometime

I have tried Valerian and found it to have a slight effect.
More of a taking the mind off it sort of thing really.
I've never tried gotu cola or ginko(isn't that said to be good for memory?)

I think a lot of people these days suffer from back problems.
A consequence of our modern lifestyle I suppose.
Thank you for the all the great info.

    on ebay,search for kratom.

ive bought it a few times. 3-4 grams is nice and mellow like a bowl of good opium. over 7 grams and i've gotta lie down and probably puke.
i favor the premium or super kratom .. dark green stuff is definately good, tan and red fine powder rifat strain slightly better and maybe not worth the extra cash..the crushed commercial leaf is weak and hardly worth the time, same with the water extracted resin. anyone else eat it too?

Grimble im in the same boat as you. Flexerl nocks me the hell out for hours at a shot.
I also have pinched nerves in my neck and back.
Out of the list of herbs you posted you bought the one that grabs my eyes
    is the KAVA KAVA root.
A teaspoon steeped in hot water for 10 minutes will give you the effect your looking for.
But allas even with the Kava you will build a tolerance to it and need to increase the dossage. Idealy the best way to go at this is have a few diffrent herbs at your disposal, and rotate which ones you use to help stave off the tolerance monster.

You might want to talk to yur doctor about Ultram , Ultracet , Tramadol. There all the same thing just diffrent versions of it. it isnt a true pain killer in the sence of a narcotic. It is an intagonist,, which means it uses you body own natural pain killers .
It also is a mood inhancer do to the endorphines it releases. Ive been on it for over a year now. I take one in the am and it gets me through most of my day without an isue.
Good luck in you search for commfort...

You may have considered this already, but have you seen a "good" chiropractor? I know, most of them are quacks, but if you seek a reputable one, it will do wonders for pinched nerves. After all, this is what they treat. Nerves that are pinched between the bones.
I have the same problem, and the chiropractor I see fixes me up with about 4 to 5 visits and I am good for a year! He is also an herbalist and a naturopath. Sure knows his stuff. Find a doc like this and you will seldom need perscription drugs.

I wish I could find a chiropractor like that.
The last one I went to was not so good.
I really should try a new one.
