![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | About to explode..EQ Hongus verm/coir casing
This casing has been in the FC for about 4 days now. It is starting to look angry. Countless knots are visible, which are rapidly turning into pins. A LC was used to inoculate this large jar of chunky brown rice/brf/verm which was sterilized via tyndallization. After a slow start it grew out to about 90 % in 15 days. The growth at that point was very slow. The jar was carefully broken, and the cake removed and rinsed off, and crumbled into a large ziplock bag. A bit of risk was taken with this casing and before laying out the mycelium chunks,a layer was applied of the uncolonized 10% of brf on top of the layer of vermiculite. The mycelium layer was added and topped off with a layer of 60/40 verm/coir, pasteurized. It was incubated for 3 days at 77-85F and placed to the FC. The knotting/pinning/colonization of the casing seen is the best produced so far by this mycologist. He is quite happy so far.

it looks good. but it does appear to be a bit dry. you may want to do a late casing method once you see some pins. if you look up fahtster, and check his profile, you should be able to find the late casing method.

I hear a late casing was applied today..very late, on top of the older casing. The overlay on the old casing layer causes any water to just pool there. Hopefully this impromptu casing layer will finish this flush out nicely. Water was added 15 hours b4 these pics, by spraying it down the sides of the casing which have shrunken away by a centimeter or so. All of this water seems to have been absorbed and a little more was added at the time of these pics. I think this is a sweet pinset for this size casing but dont know how well it can support it. Seems like a lot of toothpicks in there, but alot of them still have a way to go.

It can definitely handle the set with it's nutes.. what you need to make sure it has a lot of for that large pin set is water, so it's good that you added it to the sides... just keep an eye on it, if the pins start to abort a lot.. add more water to the sides and pour off later.. they'll run out of water before food. looks great! the late casing is still great at this point because even if pins don't form where it is right now, it's still keeping the substrate from evaporating water off while the pins you do have grow.. it's not necessarily the amount of pins all over the substrate, it's a good chance if you give it the water when it needs it, you'll get reeeeally nice fruits out of those pins... so covering that open area helps lock in moisture for this flush and gets the ball rolling for fruit development there for the second. |

Veil shot. Nice little field of fungus. Too bad they aren't all big fatties! I'm trying to understand if these are average sized. Most of the dried cubes that ever went by my eyes were some big suckers. My guess is they must have come off of bulk substrates?

yeah, usually the deeper the substrate, the larger the fruits... bulk does put out more bigguns. that looks good tho... I'd say they still have a bit to go.. I'd wait until a few start opening up before you pick em.. try to get as much as you can out of the first flush. but what that sub doesn't have in bigguns, it makes up for in number. |

Should one just wait for everything to be ready or would one start harvesting most of this now? A few are definitely about ready to print, those are going now.
