Mexican Albino

Foaf sent these pics.
This is Mexican Albino strain. He started multispore to WBS at the end of Dec. A month later he created this log. It's about 8" long and approx 7" wide (it's made from an 11" food saver roll).

This was somewhat of a neglect grow as the temps fluctuated from the 60-70 and the room humidity was about 25%.

Foaf birthed this log a little more than two weeks after making it. He did expose it to light from day one. This made a big difference in pinning time from the last log he tried.
These pics were from a couple days ago.

Due to the low temps and humidity, the mushrooms were on the small side, as was the harvest.

This strain seems to produce quite a variety of appearances. The pic below shows 3 cakes of Mexican Albino. These cakes were made from the same source as the above straw log.

Way to grow shobi! I especially like those plastic coated wire racks. I could use a couple of those right now. Where did you get them? In the dollar store???

trout you can go to the dollar store and get the trays like that, that are made to hold your dishes as they drain and dry. just flip it over on its head. works like a charm

Foaf told me there are some third flush pins, but also that some fungus gnats are making an appearance.
The racks are a buck at wally world, they aren't dishdrying racks, but they are in that section.

my foaf says to tell your foaf that gnats suck and to try to nip them in the bud now.
she says she doesnt know much about killing the maggots , or whatever they come from, but as far as the adults go. the sticky strips work like a charm.
hang a few up in your grow area and watch them fill up fast.

Third and final flush.
Foaf pitched the log as it had a serious gnat infestation.

Nice. The adult gnats were probably just feeding on your log. I'll bet they're nesting in the soil of one of your houseplants.

By the way shomi, I have a stack of petri dishes poured and wrapped up to send you. I'll try to get to the post office later. Bear with me, I can't drive, and mrs rabbit is busy with her own stuff.

You know something else that works incredibly? Apple cider vinegar. I was working on this ladies house she had just bought and she had an open bottle of it on her window sill. They were piling in there like somethin you've never seen. They pile in the bottle and can't get out. There must have been hundreds in there.

Foaf agrees with you that they are actually feeding on the log. His thinks that once the logs are fully colonized, they are really resistant to the gnats. It's only if they aren't fully colonized or after they've been dunked that the gnats become a problem.
He is going to get some strips and also give looper's apple cider vinegar a try. If that doesn't take care of it then he will take a break to do some serious cleanup in the room he uses. He doesn't have any houseplants so they are isolated to that room.
