Starting Oysters On Popcorn

I have recieved some Oyster spores from a generous member here (ryhmes with wally). I got some distilled water into the bag he sent and am now PC'ing some syringes and LC water, 15 minutes at 5 PSI.

Later tonight I was hoping to PC some popcorn I soaked last night. I ran out of rye. Do Oysters start ok on popcorn? I just want to get some going then expand it in several directions like sawdust, straw etc.

Thanks in advance

H

Sure, you can use any type of whole grain or even a PF cake for spawn.

H, oysters are a very fast colonizing mycelium. Just make sure you watch it closely. If your using agar, it will cover a plate in about 7 days. As I do alot of oyster grows, I usually get fruit about 2 weeks after inoculating shredded straw. I haven't tried sawdust though. But the only thing I can tell you is the mycelium needs alot of "openings" in the final container for fruiting. I'll get a pic of the contraption I use for puncturing the bags I inoculate. Hope that helps ya some

when i g2ged oyster mycelia from wbs grain to popcorn. it blew up and colonized in 3 to 4 days max and ready to spawn. they liked it much better than the wbs. and you can see the mycelia clearly. i find in wbs the colors change a little. and sometimes im thinking contam when its not.

hi

This is a box of 1200ml. colonized in six days ,today is the 7th day ,tomorrow the grans will inoculate 6 bags of 13-15kgs each!
No aluminium folio ,just as you see it.Weight of the full box is almost one kilogram.
Oat grains.
8 inoculation points.
So fast ,love it!
Even have problems closing the lid of the box ,realy stuffed and after sterization almost all boxes are with open lids.
