the best for last, as afoaf was at the local pet shops he found these very SPECIAL wbs! cost about 50 cents for 1 pound! my friend asked the shop owner what type of seeds were they and replied> it was grass...ya..hehehe.

but i see many protentials here! i just threw a handful in to the fields and i will try it as wbs and noc it up with some spores...maybe the oil content is too high...but i have the time to goof and experiment

yes it is a lot of oysters..i sell most of them to the locals and markets...extra income and fun. the plastic bags are like the autoclave bags in the states but cheaper. on the end we use a plastic sleeve like the neck of a soda bottle. then tie it down with rubberbands

Talking blue oysters

From the bag i got from "The Doc" i sterilized my forceps and pulled a couple of samples. Put them in sawdust/wheat bran 4:1 wetted down after mixing parts by volume. As i packed my jars i pushed it down compact and let the extra water drain back into the bowl. These are Quart Widemouth Ball jars....take notice on the date...

the bag is...the bag from the doc.
The jars were made on 12/2 and pc'ed for 1 hour @15psi. After cooling till temp reached 29oC, monitoring internal temp via spot probe thermometer, i heated forceps red hot on Natural Gas stove then dunked in pc'ed jar of water pulled a piece of the bag media out and pushed it into the center of the jar. Pics are 8 Days later.

Oysters colonize amazingly well and your project looks good. What are your plans for fruiting?

i cut the bag about half way down the substrate and am misting the bag. There's a small amount...like 2mm of water that has pooled inside the bag...is this bad? As for the jars...I was going to birth them once they become more colonized....after i take a sample and move it to another jar of course ::GRIN::
Any suggestions?

1dumbmyco LEVEL +10 - IN GOOD STANDING
Humidity levels and fresh air exchange are very crucial for fruits. It seems to maintain high enough humidity levels and enough air exchange is the key for most oysters. Mine flushed 3 times producing "aborts" and finally a few decent sized shrooms, enough for 3 dish fulls, but were a lot trickier to fruit indoors than other types. Good luck, my indoor grown tasted as good as the wild elm oysters found in these parts, though it looked strange in the pan.

i figure if i keep moving a piece of growing mycellium to a new jar before it's fully colonized i'll have a semi steady flow of fresh mushrooms.

You can do this for a while but the mycelium will eventually senesce leading to loss of vigor, lower fruiting rates, and sometimes mutated fruit. You will need to go back to your original culture or do some work with spores. So don't forget to take prints.

Damn, man, you have all the good stuff.
Enoki: Agar culture = PDYA, MYA, OMA, or DFA
Spawn media = rye grain
Fruiting substrate = oak, alder, poplar, cottonwook, aspen, willow, birch, beech, etc.)

GREEN FUZZ!!

it's all around the mouth of the bag so i'm going to cut it off and see if it will continue to fruit. Any suggestions at this point? Maybe some bleach water?

You can try a bleach dunk but if it is bad you may just want to chunk it. You definitely don't want a large trich spore load recontaminating future grows.

i hate that when it happens, what i do is squeeze the bag below the greeny and tie it with a rubber band tight but not too tight then i cut it off then spray where i cut with alcho...
works 80%..if not then i toss it.
peace

i too noticed a browning of the caps....probably cause of the fresh air problem. I'm setting up a rubbermaid with computer fans for air transfer this week so i can get these things going.

update....jar Z...pins started turning blue...i expect these to die off since they aren't really attached to the larger mass of mycellium. The chunk in the center i'm expecting a nice cluster to come out of...

no pictrures cause i'm not home...but before i left for 1.5 days i misted them and yesterday i cut a hole for the shrooms to grow out of into the open....that big guy in jar X was poking out the hole a bit before i left. maybe i'll have edible fruits when i get back home. Jar Z's fruits were hitting the lid so i'm hoping to have something good out of that when i get back too.

jar Z is now out performing jar X. The shroom growing out of it is only about as big around as a dime....i think it stoipped growing. The cap started to crack around the edge so maybe it dried out....i've been misting into the jar but the humidity is low in the apartment. jar X started to pin again...i ate the only mushroom that grew from it...it was smaller then the one growing out of Z.

yeah crank up the humid the air needs to be moist and fresh but not blowing! make the hole about the size of a quarter..you have them in a chamber or is it out in the open? needs to be in a control enviro slightly shaded..maybe get rid the tyvek use a plastic sheet with the hole. imo i think the tyvek contributes to the evap and thats why you have dry caps as well?

peace
