Smile Pic of some Monkey style grow

For those of you who haven't hung with the Monkey, he likes to do things a certain way. Pretty standard 1/2 pint PF style jars with tyvek, noc, ignore for 2 to 3 months. Pop out the pucks and put 4 each into 6qt shoeboxes on a couple layers of clean paper towel and put the lid on. Change out the paper towels between flushes. Wave one or two times a day and spray with water when the towel looks dry. Dunk for 30 minutes under vacuum with tap water to re-hydrate between flushes collecting the boomers but leaving all the pins. This is two of the 6 shoe boxes and they look to be about ready to harvest 2nd flush. First flush was about 14 ounces (wet) and this looks to be about the same, but won't know till they are collected. Hawaiian and Texan, not sure which are which cuz there is no printing going on...just wanted some freshies. When they start goin green they retire to the big ol round file outside. Going strong so far tho.

    very healthy looking.
ever considered adding a few polyfil/tyvek patched holes
in the container as in monotub tek for passive fresh air exchange ?

Yeah, Hip, I have considered it, and tried some variations...just seems to fit my lifestyle to do it this way. Still a work in progress but Pearlite and me don't get along so the paper towels and waving are it for now. Next run I will do some air exchange stuff to see if I can neglect even further.

And as for the 2-3 months it's cuz I am not interested in maximum yield minimum time and the jars wait till I am ready. What is time to a Monkey?

Foodsaver makes these great square pans that you can fill with water and put 4 floating cakes in, put the lid on, turn the lid knob to vacuum, and suck the cakes to the bottom and they bubble like crazy while filling with water. One hour is likely optimum...I was in a hurry when doin it this time and did 1/2 hour and the cakes were plenty heavy. Love the Foodsaver line.

Oh, and Indacaz, I have done casings and have done quick and have had some great big flushes, but don't need it. My needs are very humble. Just wanted to let the Myzzhouze know I still got an opposable toe in.

monkey see monkey do. I like to let my jars sit for a while too once colonized. I am pretty lazy sometimes though, just no time for them to get off the ground. Beautiful fruits however

Thank You for the kind comments. The Foodsaver model is VAC-750 but they change out models a couple times a year so you just look for one that has the port for connecting a hose (included) to the jar lids. A friend tried the black and decker competing model but it has a wimpier motor. The cakes float at first, and amazingly most pins will survive this process, tho maybe 20% turn black (abort)...maybe from bumping around too...pins don't like bein touched much. You can fit 4 fat halfpint pucks into the cool vacuum-maranade style pans I spoke of above. If you get the water level right and don't have air pockets or water flowing up your vac hose, then the cakes can sink. There will be cross contamination of whatever is on any one of the cakes with a dunk of this style. Once the green hits one you end up losing all 4. Again, not a real problem for me, as even this clumsy method will go 4 rounds with half or better survival. MORE than enough for the Monkey.

Cartoons are one of my little joys. I am glad to toss shit to such appreciative audiance.

Some have, yes, but I am not printing these. Don't want to muddy up the print world with some Might Be Texans, Might be Hawaiians.

OH...and the Foodsaver thing is somewhere between $50 and $130 (US) depending on how many bells and whistles it has. Walmart and Sams Club have them.

Thank you Laz. Here is what they looked like freshly picked...575 g (20.3oz) wet off 16 cakes (flush 2). And a bonus pic for those who like the vacuum idea.

They smell and feel so awesome! The missus particularly likes the cottony flesh at the base as ultra cool.

Do we rush to get the cakes to pin too fast?
Seems like there may be a better payoff if the cake is allowed to mature longer and have more nutrients available for the pins to bloom out bigger. Patience is a virtue.

YAYYY We're back! That server migration crap sux...in that its a PITA to do, but hopefully this is a good change. Go Zen!

Yep Hip, the pins mind the bumping around more than an hour of vacuum pressure hydration. A few abort, but most continue to grow. I have this aversion to picking little tiny pins off of cakes. Especially dozens of them as these cakes tend to produce.

Had an entire tub go green so its down by 3 cakes now but third flush looks to be okay so far. One other tub looks a bit off...there is too much green in this environment...3 might be all it goes.

I hope that all makes sense, cuz I am pretty stoned and cant be held responsible for what these monkey fingers type in this condition.

    Much love

So, the third flush was a modest 144g (5.1oz) yesterday and another 45g this morning. They looked so good I had to make a monkey omelet this morning. ended up with 50g of blue chopped up mushies lightly sauteed in three eggs with some grated fried potatoes and a few strips of bacon. YUMMM. This is starting to become my Saturday morning check-in with the Goddess in the Mushroom.

Thanks Golly. She rang my bell today. For awhile I was in the fetal position with tears, awash with raw emotion and overcome by the one-ness. I had the most bizarre experience. I have a friend that we were college roomates over a decade ago and we still talk and are friends but she lives 3000 miles away. I was in the shower trying to clean off the sweat and I had this overwhelming flash of insight, a connecting to her life so that in an instant, I UNDERSTOOD her from the inside out. The shock of suddenly feeling like you are in someone else's head and life, fully immersed, nearly knocked me to the shower floor. After a little panic at whether I had just fried my brain, and some weed to help me get the emotions under control...I calmed down and called my old friend and we gabbed for like 2 hours. I didn't tell her of my vision, but just checked in and let her vent about how her children were and other stuff in her life. I am not sure how I am gonna talk to my wife about this vision because it was amazingly strong and vivid. Anyway, I am once again humbled before the mighty magic mushroom. Fresh is da bomb! Laters.

I love those mondo transcendental "No, that couldn't have happened...could it?" moments. The mushies do some fun things to our brains.
