Poo and his amazing virgin tub of B+

This is a ficticious story/log was written as an sttempt to entertain and others. Between writing a masters thesis, two jobs, various horny ladies, whisky, and OCD gambling on pro football FOAF found time to entertain his interest in mycology.

FOAF started five clear sterelite tubs (12 QT, $1 apiece) about the square size of a piece of legal paper and about 4 1/2 inches deep. He used 10 spent grain cakes of various size and strain.

By way of backstory, The cakes were spawned and first flushed in commercial filter patch bags. This seemed to work so well that he thught he would try to fuck it up (against my good advice ) and fruited them in a small plexi-glass aquarium filled with two inches of wet perlite, sitting on 1/2 beer can risers. No casing was used and it's summer so room temp was easly regulated with a/c. The results of this were better than the bags. So he dunked the cakes between flushes for 12 hours or so in the fridge and flushed until they were mush.

The ten spent cakes were randomly crumbled into five tubs (20% GT, 80% B+)

Tub 1 had no passive venting, a layer of verm, spent mych, 50/50 heat pasturized horse shit & straw, No casing.

Tub 2 Had a 3 inch square hole cut in it with a saws all ( FOAF has 0 paitence) covered with Tyvek, verm,mych,50/50 HP,verm/spagnum casing,

Tub 3 about 50 drilled holes two inches from top of sub layer on side of tub, no tyvek open air, same casing

Tub 4 same as 2

Tub 5 is a huge mother fucker, 45 quarts about 3 foot by 1.5, same casing technique

The photos are of the prolific fruiter tub #1. No casing ,no venting, kicking the shit out of the rest of the tubs.

Using old mych seems to take a long time to colonize the shit.

How does FOAF dunk a tub ? or otherwise get the tub ready for a second flush ?

Please point FOAF to an easy Vanilla/Karo LC tek.

tubs 2-5 all stated pinning today.

The last picture is FOAF's newest project, $1 salad bowl terrariums, and salad bowl casings, various experimental venting and casing methods are bieng employed to see what seems to suit FOAF the best.

My FOAF is also experimenting with manual fanning and ultra cheap plastic bins - also having good results.

You can "dunk" your bins by just weighing the substrate down and filling 'em with water. You can also just mist them heavily a couple times a day (until pins show back up) to re-hydrate. Or you could just let 'em go.

And yah, mycelia slows *WAY* down after a pretty short period of time. "Spent" cakes are hella slow, compared to fresh spores/LC. Not that they don't work, just that they work very S L O W L Y.

Almost looks like a Lettuce holder i saw recently,

It looked ideal as a small terrarium for cakes or casings. Only problem is i couldnt find any cheap enough that they would seem financially viable on any semi large scale grow.

Great looking little things either way

FOAF thanks you for all your kindness involving this fictional piece of literature

The above picture is of ten $1 lettuce bowls. FOAF is using them to both case and as a terrarium for grain cakes.

The casings were made by putting about one inch wet verm in the bottom of the bowl topped of with a thin layer of 50/50 heat pasteurized horseshit & straw. Then grain cakes were crumbled onto the poop and more poop then more crap then 2 were cased with more wet verm, 2 were left without a casing.

FOAF's grain cakes were grown in commercial filterpatch bags, inoculated by syringe, covered the holes with tape and let sit for four weeks.

Wow ! that's exciting

FOAF is also trying to fruit some grain cakes using the bowl as a terrarium.

Venting of the bowls is varied; a couple have 15 or so holes drilled in the top of the bowl cap covered with micro pore, some are open to air, some are drilled in the top of the bowl rather than the cap . FOAF wants to see what works best for him.

The first casing to fruit did so on the sides of the bowl mostly. So after thirty seconds of serious deliberation, and against his humble scribes wishes, he flipped the bowl over, and is growing it out on both sides !

FOAF used fresh mycelia for this project and the went fast, less than two weeks to fruit

FOAF is going to throw one hell of a halloween party this year !!

Welp, after playing around with the cakes in terrariums, It seems that results are more satisfying for FOAF if he cases so the salad bowl terrariums are going bye-bye and FOAF is saying he's going to try a rez-tek in the salad bowls using coir/verm substrate and casing with verm. Spawn will be Crumbled PF cakes (innoc. with homemade multispore) and some WBS prepared by the quick soak jar tek innoculated w multispore. Very interested in this rez-tek stuff as FOAF is looking to increase pinning to look like Blue Helix or Fahsters projects. FOAF is also trying some of those water proof bandaid tops with self healing injection ports.

Some wird shrooms came up in FOAF's salad bowl patch, these are grey in color and the stems are like a fine fillament. huh.

It seems like the casings FOAF made are doing better than the terrariums.
This one is Hillbillies Hawian. They stated to pin all over the sides so FOAF flipped the cake & bowl over so they could grow out from all sides, top and the bottom. The following pictures show side, top and bottom views of the two piece bowl. The cover (or now base after the flip) has about 12 small holes in it covered with micro pore. The bowl part has about ten open air holes drilled just under the rim of the lid for air exchange. FOAF is a little dissapointed in the size of the fruits and has yet to sample them due to a hectic work schedule. We hope it's not the size that counts !!

You cant really see the last picture that well but they are growing like mad out of the bottom the black splotches are spores.

Once again on the part of FOAF and myself, this is all fiction,lies and mental masterbation intended to share excitement.
