If it has contaminated that fast I bet the mycelium really won't do well even if you isolate it and hang on to it. I'd chunk it in the compost pile. Who knows, you may see a few fruits off of it.

it was interesting to find the title of this thread. i am starting my 2nd grow, the first one was about a year ago; i decided to go with WBS and i got some sa and tex syringes. I plan on using qt jars and rez-effect for fruiting, so maybe i'll post my results when i get things going.

3-7 days is normal germination time although it can take a few days longer. So does the contaminated bag smell like rotten apples or garbage? If so that is a bacterial contamination and if it is contaminated you should be able to see signs of it in a day or two. I'll get a link to a bacillus contamination...brb.

Here is a link. Your grains/seeds will take on this greasy look if it is indeed a bacterial contamination. http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthre...light=bacillus (Pictures of Bacillus)

Agreed. That does look like bacteria.

That bag you have made should work fine Guy. I know damn well who gave you that simmer advice and it's bad advice for the beginner using whole grains. There's no need in simmering your grains after a 24 hours soak. Stay away from the simmer all together and stick with the soak and drain. If I were you, i'd simply soak the wild bird seed for 12 hours only. This gives you a bit of lead way for the grain's final moisture content if you haven't drained your seed well. Let the wild bird seed soak for 12 hours and then drain it well in a collander for an hour. Make sure there's no dripping water comming from the collander when you shake it. Also; prior to loading the seed in your bags, mix all of the seed up with a spoon in the collander so all of the excess moisture in evenly distributed throughout the grains. Then immediately load up your bags to be pc'd for 2 hours @15psi. Done and i'll nearly gaurantee success. Good luck none the less and seek your advice here at Mycotopia.

By the way Guy, you don't need that much filter space for your bags. 1 inch of filter space is plenty.
