| Before FOAF goes wasting a lot of time & effort he asked that I get a question anwsered. Can FOAF use a small casing that has only fruited once as spawn ? Meaning, break that casing up (about 6 quarts) into a 45 quart bin of matching fresh substrate? (one gallon dehydrated, pasteurized, composted cow poop, 1 gallon verm, 1 small brick of coir ) FOAF is out of spawn due to an entire run of spawn projects getting the sweet bacteria. 5 dozen jars to the birds. FOAF thinks he still has a lot to learn about clean print taking and making of spore syringes. He has read the TEK's but hasn't been able to make it work yet. However, the experimentation continues !!!!![]() Thanks to all the wonderful people here for thier hand in my friend of a friends success !! For all you porn lovers FOAF took a picture of a cluster of hillbilly's hawians that he harvested from the casing he wants to use as spawn. Notice the tops are all cracked and puffy and, those nipples on the top OMG !!! The stems are hollow and FOAF has yet to see one of them get much bigger than this, not a favorite strain but still lots of fun !! ![]() |

![]() | I don't know if it is different with an already fruited casing, but generally what you are refering to is called superspawning. http://archives.mycotopia.net/discus...tml?1070731884

![]() ![]() | Poo, just so folks don't get confused around the word casing....What you're actually talking about is using the substrate as spawn. Casing: A non-nutritious layer that is applied over the top of a substrate to encourage Pinning by creating a loose microenvironment with numerous small air spaces. The casing layer also helps to provide moisture to the substrate below. Substrate: That part of a mushroom growing system that contains the nutrients and provides a place for the Mycelium to expand and colonize though cell divisions. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | It's a gamble Poo..If you are going to try this , it would increase your odds to lower the ratio..1:1 would be more realistic imo...and dont hold your breath waiting for caps..How about trying a clone too for backup...Gluk.. Nice cluster btw... |

| Low Humidity is true, However I like the way they look all cracked up, Hua-gua or whatever ![]() FOAF has been dealing with aphids and one of the mister bottles went kerput so to make a long story short no misting was done on those hawians since casing. FOAF is struggling with a bad scorching case of lazitis brought on by hypovaganimia. Misting will resume forthwith. So FOAF might just give it a try, crumbling the spawned substrate into more fresh substrate ? Has anyone tried this at home ? |

| So, no one has tried this and documented it ? Taking colonized bulk substrate that has been fruited once and breaking it up and trying to colonize more bulk substrate ? Well since no one anwsered the call FOAF strapped on his shiny brass pair and his yellow hard hat and did it !! I'll let y'all know how it turned out. Right now it looks fluffy and white.. ![]() If it works why wouldn't you do this over and over ? Seems like once you get started it cuts out the need to grow spawn on grain or cakes or whatever ? If you want to keep a strain for later experimentation save a nice healthy piece of sub, dry it out and save t til later ? just thinkin out loud at 2 AM..... |

![]() | vigor as well as resistance to contams decline over time, not worth holding on to, recycling old mycellia. faster and more productive to use fresh although small dried samples are useful for storing a strain for use much later.

| The only reason FOAF is doing this half ass TEK is because he ran out of fresh spawn. He is still learning how to take clean prints, make his own syringes. FOAF has some wierd looking aphids, they don't seem to be harming the project ( tub of bulk sub ). They aren't spinning webs like the spider mites he's seen on various MJ projects and they don't seem to be affected by organic mite spray (vinager, baking soda, lemon, etc.. ) that has shown to be sucessful in the past. He knows that they are eating something , they are so small, if they don't move you don't see them. He'd be in a panic but they don't seem to be affecting the project and the #'s of pests is low. He is very curious as to what they are however and how to wipe them of the face of the mother F'n earth. Once again this shows how cool this hobby is because what works for one situation/individual dosn't work for others; goals, enviorment, and personal tempermant all create a unique anwser to all growing questions. There is a unique satisfaction that comes from the ritual summoning of the materials of your coice from the earth. |
