![]() | FOAF started with 12 jars that grew mycelium normally, with no contamination or off colors. She put them in 4 different fruiting chambers using perlite bottom, and after a few weeks of airing out every day something doesnt quite look right... The strain was penis envy, but these are the most fucked up looking things ive ever seen, i think my FOAF had some nightmares about this shit...the more "developed" aka older ones do not look right at all, mutation maybe? or something else?? contamination?? rather than healthy looking fungus, there are misshapen monstrosities growing off the cakes, and the second pic seems to be contaminated with something. also not sure of the bluish tint is just bruising, or maybe something else? any input on this situation would be greeaattly appreciated!!!...hopefully my FOAF can find out what the hell is going on here.... |

![]() | I've seen this type of thing posted before with the PE strain. All of the strange fungus can be eaten you know? I'd harvest everything off of the cake and would dry all of it. Weird mutations and all. Eating them won't hurt you.

![]() | Yes, that's true. The next flush more than likely will provide more normal looking fruitbodies. The balls of mycelium are edible, but the problem with them is they dry up to nearly nothing. But who cares. Get what you can on this flush, clean the excess mushroom tissue off of the cakes well from the harvest, dunk the cakes for 12 hours and then double end case them for round 2. Round 2 will work out much better. Good luck.

![]() | Also, make sure to give the terarrium 4-5 FAE's and mistings a day for healthy mushroom growth. And definately avoid Lysol or that type of air or surface cleaners around the terrarium. Not good.

![]() | i just just talking about how these deformaties usually dry up to hardly anything. i know pe's actually have a more weight to them after dried that most cubies. thats why i grow them all the time. texans also do not loose as much weight as many other cubes. or so i have found

| they look alot like entoloma abortivum, an aborted form of entoloma found in association with honey mushrooms in the fall. The aborted form looks like stryofoam a little bit and tastes like shrimp. In fact i prefer the aborted over the unaborted form ...heres a linklink that explains it better. and sorry your shrooms turned out all chernobyl style. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/entoloma_abortivum.html |

![]() ![]() | I've seen my PF Classics get that way when I water them too much and they're not getting enough fresh air. After the pins set on cakes I don't spray or mist them at all (provided the chamber's humidity is adequate, like 99% for cakes). I also notice the second flush looking much more normal, and thought it might be due to the myc. in the cake releasing less CO2 because (I'm guessing) the substrate has been thoroughly colonized by then and so metabolism has slowed so the myc. can focus energy on mushroom production. In a closed FC, the excess CO2 is likely very high earlier on. Growing side-by-side with South Americans, my PF Classic grows very fat asses even in trays (while the SA's in the exact same environment look textbook normal) but they are otherwise normal looking. The same PF Classic grown out in a closed terrarium looks much more deformed and weird until the second flush. I never seem to aerate them enough when it's got to be done manually. And hell yeah, those mutants pack a punch!

![]() | No clue what causes it, but my FOAF has seen it on cakes. Check this ugly sucker. Looks like a tumor or an alien egg or something. The inside of it had a decided brain matter look. ![]() ![]() Ugly...but nice and potent. And later flushes should be fine. As you can see, that cake had normal shroomies and the big glob on the same flush. There were no more globs in later flushes, though.

![]() | I'm sorry, have we met? Last time "gross" things I've eaten/drunk came up, people became a bit skittish... That sucker was digesting about 45 minutes after harvest. It was a decent bit too much, in fact.
